A while back I discovered a Coleman Apex my Dad had bought, it's a great stove. It will never completely replace my Svea, but boy does the Apex simmer nice!

However, the Apex has the typical pump body crack at the brass fuel outlet. I was surfing ebay and found this....

The seller said it was never used, I took that at face value, "never used" could mean anything from never fired to never cooked more than 2 gallons of chili......

The seller was an expat Spud Head.....being a fellow Spud Head, I talked him into a 15% discount....nice guy!

After opening the box, I could see that indeed the stove had never been fired, so I opened up the fuel bottle and gave a sniff.....

Sure enough, not only hasn't the stove been fired, the bottle had never been fueled up, and it came with 2 repair kits and kerosene generator. The thing I can't figure out.......

is what was the marketing division thinking by putting a turtle on the box? Is there a subliminal message? Kind of like the lemon next to the Svea box....were they telling me my Svea was a lemon? The Apex slow to boil? Who knows.....

Oh yeah, forgot to say that the new stove (01-00) doesn't have a hint of a crack on the pump body! That doesn't mean the crack won't appear over night, but I was happy to see that......

Thanks for service and enjoy your stove. Mystery about the turtle for sure. Someone said put a turtle on the box and like in the service you do it and don't ask why.
Mine had a cracked valve body for about ten years that I used it. Never leaked a drop and mine simmer very well also. Used a couple MSR stoves the other day and wished they were the Apex stoves. Pan biscuits cooked very fast and eggs cooked with stove off. Need to use right tool for job.
