It’s the large one. I wasn’t sure if it’d fit but with the lid on it’s fine. Got some mild steel welding rods to try and make a pot stand hopefully at the weekend. I’ve never done anything like this before so we’ll see what happens whatever it is I try to do.
I like the Kitefox 8R pot supports. They are free standing, so making loops in the aluminum lower case to hold steel hoops is unnecessary.

With the Coleman cover, I've got lots of headroom. With your Trangia kit, upper space may be limited. Anfeng's triangular design has a simple elegance to it, and would pack small. Also has kind of a Comet Scout #6 vibe. Not to mention cheap to build. Kitelamp wants $21 USD for their piece, before shipping from Taiwan, and State sales tax.
That’s the problem ordering from overseas here, it’s always been bad, this tax and that duty. You’ve got to really want or need something to order from abroad nowadays. Ebay is a necessary evil but you’ve got to be careful making sure whatever you order is coming from here. Anfengs pot stand is the way to go I think for the “Frankenstove”. I’m going to restore the 8R (or try) but at the minute I’m robbing bits off it to cobble together another useable stove. In my mind at least, nothing apart from the Trangia has arrived yet.
8R came this morning. Transplanted 99 innards, quick scrub with a Brillo pad, job done till I can get the electrolysis sorted. Now it’s time to clean and service the 8R burner and work out where it’s going.
Strayed slightly from my original post but I’ve pretty much finished the 8R, all except the 1” Optimus decal for the lid.
Should really post this in the fettle bit but hey. I felt sorry for the 8R and didn’t want to steal the heat shield for the 99 project and because of the unavailability of 99 bits. I’d never done electrolysis before and it worked a treat. So now my stove collection is an 8R, a 123R and a 99. The Frankenstove is coming along, just a pot stand to make and I’m waiting for a burner plate and key from Basecamp. That should be finished by next weekend. And, I’ve got a 99 base in my spares!
The flash makes it look terrible but I printed my own sticker in the end. £18.03 for postage on a £3 decal from Canada is ridiculous.
Borrowed burner plate and heat shield from my 8R just to test. Ordered the plate and a key from Basecamp and just to find a piece of stainless for a heat shield.
Quite a groovy little stove if I don’t say so myself! Made a foldable pot stand but didn’t like it in the mess tin.

Rough quick measure of 8R innards 110 x 93 x 69mm... you were right to go with the large. It would be interesting to see if 8R might also barely fit into a small. "By the numbers" it does not fit but it's darn close, might it squeeze-in? I can only wonder. Including / using relevant search terms does help: trangia 209 search >, found > Optimus 111D mini . VERY similar effort/ideas, earlier this year. Great minds think alike. I do not know when the 209 / 210 current version began. 1950 catalog is 1st i see of similar rectangle pan and tin being offered (retail). That pan had early handle with 2 loops to accept stick to extend it. With Trangia's term "mess tin" might these have had a WW2 military issue origin/inspiration... i dunno. i gotta run, carry on.
While the late 99s had stainless steel shields, the earlier had aluminium shields that attached to/ formed the pot stand base.
