Hello All, I recently acquired an Optimus OO in good used nick fitted in a strange box with a couple of burners one slightly larger than the other and one brass shield and one steel shield so can't tell which one belongs with which. If anyone has any hints as to the which if the two burners belong to the stove and whtehr one might be for white spirits and one for Kero I'd love to know. I prefer white spirits for all my stoves if possible but if the OO cannot use white spirits I will live having to sue kero for one of them. There is residue of a nice varnish-like coating on the body fo the stove that I would if possible like to replicate. I love brass but as I was in the army for a number of years centuries ago, I prefer not to spend my time poliching it. The tank holds pressure but I will do a complete refurb of the seals WHY so any hints as to sources for bits would be great. Any other hints would be warmly welcomed too! The box is intriguing as all the kit fits in as if the box were made for it but it is a Korean Shinabro model 340 box that looks the spitting image of the Optimus OO to my uneducated eye. Made under license or a rip off perhaps? Looking to fettle this up, get it into operation and use it for our camping trips. We use a 1993 Landrover Discovery 200TDI for our advetures so it's fitting that we use analogue stoves as well. I bought this along with a couple of others inlcuding a Campingo 2, a Primus 71, a Optimus 8R and an Optimus 111 as our camping "go to's". I'll post these seprately in the coming days. I ain't a collector. My desire is power our off grid experiences with analogue devices and back to nature style kit. We love our scuba, 4X4 and bush craft stuff so Tiger Sharks, Landrovers, Kukhuri, fat wood, feathering, batoning, open fires, Dutch ovens and 4X4ing are some of our key words!
Hi, I don’t know why no one else has answered and I’m not an expert but looking at your pictures one burner is marked Optimus and that is the correct one for your stove. The one marked Primus looks like it’s for a Primus 210 , a similar 1 pint stove. Primus did not use that type of windshield but Optimus used a steel windshield first and then a brass one so either could be correct. Both burners are for kerosene as that stove is not designed for white spirits. At your service! - The Fettlebox can supply all washers etc that you need, pick kit B the one pint stove kit.I don’t know of a local supplier near to you. The stove has been lacquered and Rustins is a suitable replacement but I don’t know if it’s available there.
Nice score. Another source for the washer kit is Camping Caravan & Marine, based in Christchurch/North Canterbury. They also sell a NRV tool that you'll need to remove the NRV at the bottom of the pump tube, and a jet tool if you need to replace the jet. I'm fairly certain that they are reselling the kits produced by the Fettlebox but if they have them in stock you only will have to wait on the vagaries of NZ Post and not the Royal Mail as well.
Thanks for the tips! I've been in touch with C&C guys in CHCH. It's just a matter of hunting through their catalogue as they don't have anything sorted by stove type.
Thanks for that info. Which is which as they both have Optimus marked on it. Is there a reason why there are two burners or is one just an add-in for no reason do you think?
You are correct both burners are marked Optimus Primus which I had not noticed before therefore date to between 1963 and 1969 when Optimus took over Primus and produced stoves marked Optimus and stoves marked Primus but to save money used the same burner on both stoves. Why there are two I don’t know maybe one doesn’t work well or one is a spare. They are not made anymore so handy to have a spare or good to restore another stove . @Dave Sherry
Thanks for the info. I havn't yet fired the stove up as it doesn't hold presurre. In the process of sorting out a service kit - bit painful as I can't find a "kit" per se, have to build one up out of listed bits whisch is a bit awkward as I don't know all the parts I need yet.
