    @Scrambler Just took a look for those markings and my M-1950 Mountain cook set is marked to my surprise. The word Japan is stamped on bottom of lg pan, lid and inner are not marked. My set has seen a lot of fire use and pans are darkened almost hiding the word Japan

    @Daryl The marking on mine is from the Australian Army. My guess is that yours would have been Japanese Self Defence Forces. Very much a guess. My understanding was that manufacturing was in the USA. Actual date of approval is 1942 not 1950, so even issue during the occupation of Japan is possible.

    Sorry for the diversion, crew, and we will now return you to the Swiss cookset channel.

    Hello, new to this site and forum. Have both SVEA 123 and Optimus 80 stoves, and several Sigg Tourist kits ranging from pristine to "well used". They fit the SVEAs great, but the Optimus only works in the unstable blue saltine cracker box as it's too tall for the Sigg. I am under the impression, and please correct me if I am wrong here, that the Optimus 80 will fit just fine in the Edelweiss cook kit (Sigg style, albeit taller to accommodate the stove). If this is true, I would like to obtain an Edelweiss kit, even as a short-term loaner to measure for 3D CAD model from which to fabricate a new one, in AL or SS. Any thoughts or recommendations? Have all of my original Kelty/Gerry/etc. gear from the mid-70's when in high school and would like to do some backpacking/camping in my final year or so if possible. Thanks in advance. Wayde

    Welcome Wayde, you came to the right site for your stove questions and info. Took some pictures to show how the Edelweiss and Sigg kits compare. Note the 71 is same height as Svea 123R and kit bases and windscreens are same height. If your 80 is too tall for your Sigg kit it will be too tall for Edelweiss kit also. Since you are able to fabricate parts I would make a new base and/or windscreen that is taller to accommodate the taller Optimus 80. If you keep the same OD your Sigg pans will work.
    Used the Edelweiss and Primus 71 this morning at our local Car and Coffee. Daryl SoCal
    FYI A guy in 'members only section' was offering a free base and windscreen sections this morning for Optimus 88 that may have worked for your 80?

    Under the circumstances as I infer them, I wouldn't wait for the 80, but would go forthwith with the Sigg/123.

    Daryl,

    I can't seem to locate the person you referred to regarding the windscreen and base for free (willing to purchase/pay for shipping if it works). Can you be more specific about "Members Only" as there are several of those and my global search didn't return anything of use for me to leverage. Thanks in advance. Feel free to forward this to the person in question.

    bump, following up on Edelweiss comments, with mine now in-hand:

    as mine relates to Daryl's;
    both with same distinct unmarked pot gripper, that looks to be unique to Edelweiss. A nice one.

    re dating: both acquired w/P71 shorties, mine with a 52, his with a 62.

    re stamping: both w/"EDELWEISS" off center
    mine stamped w/oval logo: "Fritsch & Co., Zurich" on center.

    For now for me it's looking more Swiss-made than anything else.
