I recently bought this nice Svea 16. It is an old model with external NRV. I find from the catalogues that is was for sale around 1915, but also as late as 1937. I guess it is impossible to tell when this one was produced? Now to my question - it came with a Svea trivet, probably original. But it also came with a large tin that fits the stove including trivet. Can anyone tell if this may be an original Svea/Sievert option?
Hei Håvard, We can't say precisely when Svea stoves were made, there are no date codes, but, by carefully comparing catalogue, advertising and gallery entries, it has proven possible to build a rough timeline of variations based on changes in engravings and construction details. Your example, with both the Sievert 'star burst' logo and 'bubble' font comes from the earliest main iteration of these stoves. This dates from 1908 up into the early 1920s (at some point around the mid-1920s the 'bubble' font was replaced by a much plainer font. Comparing with eg Lux it seems most likely that the No.16 model was introduced sometime in the last couple of years before the outbreak of WW1. So that gives rough dating parameters somewhere in a c.10 year time window between c.1912/3 through to c.1922/3ish. I doubt that the tin fits with such a relatively early date, to me it looks similar to some tins used much later by Optimus but others may be able to be more specific on this. Ian
Thanks, @igh371 ! I kind of expected it to be rather old, given the lettering. It is in really great shape given that is is 100 years old! Hope to fire it up soon - I believe it is ready to go.
