Bought this at an auction recently. But what was it originally intended for? Fuel, oil?
"PRIMUS" clearly on the lid. No other markings what I can find. Any idea of time period?
    Appreciate any input, thank you.

I would assume same with @tretrop Maybe cap and threaded part that is soldered into canister are from Primus spirit can (if volume of the canister is small).

Looks very much like one of the small size WW1 period Vickers machine gun oil cans. Could Primus have got involved in supply of ancillary items such as that? Or was it just an a stove outfit fuel or spirit can?

Thanks for input. Strange though, because cap & threaded part does not seem to be retrofitted. Also, I cannot seem to find it on local swedish sites, not even army-issue small canisters or similar.
I'll just keep on the look-out for possible clues...

It would be good if you could tell us the capacity of the container. I believe that the gun oilers are around 0.5 pints capacity.
Sweden was likely a major maker of munitions in WW2 and it is possible/likely that Primus might have been involved as a sub-contractor.
    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

It measures 8x9x3.5 cm which adds up to 252 cm3, 252 ml or abt 0.44 British pints (0.53 US pints).

Unlike a Vickers oil canister, there's no brush attached to the cap.

I would guess Swedish military 1940s, but I have not seen any evidence. I have seen quite a few of these with minor variations. I have a couple of unused ones. They often turn up unused.
