Got one for Christmas. New version (I know, I know). Anyway, it works well, except the control knob won’t QUITE turn the flame all the way off. Just a tiny tongue of blue flame persists from the nipple, no matter how hard one squelches down. So, cognoscenti, is this the needle being set too low, or the shaft point insufficientY deep, or just good ‘ol Taiwanese perfection?

The best test is to take the pricker rack out and use the stove without the pricker.

If the flame persists on shutdown the problem is with the seating of the control spindle in the burner. If it is that, and there is no clear burring on the spindle end, the solution is to use some grinding paste (lapping compound) on pointy the end of the spindle - but keep it away from any threads - and open and shut the spindle many times (eg 50) to form a clean seat. Rinse with engine cleaner and try again.

One thing I should have clarified: Does the flame persist? In other words, could it be that the flame you see is the result of unburnt fuel in the burner above the shut off?

Because I like pictures. Pictures talk to me.
    Thanks for your understanding.

It probably lasts for at least a minute. All the while i am cranking it as hard as possible to the right.

    Harder is not better.
This might possibly make it worse. The cone of the spindle will possibly be damaged more.

A lot of em tend to do that candle flame thing, drives me nuts. A bit of work on spindle takes care of it.

    Let us know what goes!

Remove the cleaning needle and try the stove before you try to profile the spindle.
    Easy first.
    Hard later.

Take pricker out first and test, as @snwcmpr says. That will eliminate incorrect setting of the needle.

Don’t grind the needle if it’s not burred. Do what I suggested above: the goal is to gently shape the two surfaces simultaneously so their surfaces mate snugly.

In my experience, when the cleaning needle is off one tooth, stove won't shut off at all.

When spindle has issue, is little candle flame.

But by all means try removing rack.

Usually you can see on spindle cone where it's seating. You certainly want to maintain the same angle, just get everything smooth and even. I've put them in a drill press and spun em against a wetstone.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes.
