Looks like a slight variation to me. The parts that require expensive tooling are identical. I'd say they were made by the same folks. Question: don't these types of stoves require priming? I don't see the priming cup.
On the Punker there’s a priming cup under the burner and a priming charge is physically transferred by a cup attached to the filler cap, poured into a swing-out priming shute which cascades it into the priming cup. Incidentally, some Punkers had burners of the UPO pattern - right-hand photo example.
Huh... interesting. Well, that answers one question, but begs another - I would think putting a little pan under the burner & filling it by opening the valve would be much more convenient. Isn't that what most of these stoves do?
...or maybe (to answer my own question) it was thought that by providing a small measuring cup permanently attached to the cap, folks would be less likely to overfill the priming cup and end up with a flaming mess directly under the stove. Could be a safety feature?
@PWDolkas Fair comment. If fuel is trickled into the priming cup by opening the fuel valve the fuel in the tubing encircling the burner results in quite violent pulsing during pre-heat as it vapourises. The Punker method of fuel externally added to the priming cup pre-heats the burner before fuel is released into the tubing encircling the burner.
UPO was a big company in Finland. They had foundry, iron works and they made all kind on household appliances. So they had capability and resources to make necessary tooling to manufacture those stoves. I assume that they just copied Punker or maybe had a license from Punker to make those stoves. This other Finnish ALU stove is also same design as Swedish KOMA: Järvenpää Aluminitehdas - Finland Maybe also copied or licensed.
