Hi, Gents. I needed a new burner for my old Optimus No. 1, and came upon these, which say "Portugal" on them. Unfortunately, the thread O.D. is too big. (14.45 mm +/- see pic.) Any idea what midel these will fit? What can i do with them? 20230322_122120.jpg 20230322_205514.jpg 20230322_205645.jpg

I have 3 of the same, thread major diameter varying 14.42-14.503mm (.568-.571 inches), but all making a nice fit to an Optimus 45 collapsible type riser.

That is the 'standard' thread OD for No. 1 & 5 stove burners. Maybe @Mcbhaine 's Optimus No. 1 is older model that might have some different thread size or is it traveling/collapsible model that also might have different thread size. If riser of the stove is repaired or changed then thread size could be different.

@Mcbhaine How much is the ID of the riser?

Portugal marked burners are most propably made by 'Patria', which was burner manufacturer in Portugal. (Although I a bit wonder did Patria used flame rings that looks to be made from steel and are yellow passivated. Often India/Far East made burners have that kind of flame rings (and burner caps)...)

Is the problem with the actual o/d of the threads or with the quality of the cutting of the threads?

There have been problems with quality control with some generic copies over the years. In particular some that don't seem to have the threads cut sufficiently deeply, or with quite the right pitch, and these can be very difficult if not impossible to screw into place.

Hi, and thanks. Yes, it is the OD. My very old No. 1 has smaller OD.

Thanks. I do have a very old No. 1. Will check the I.D. and report. Anyone want to pick these up cheap? Flame spreaders do not appear to be brass, or if it is, it is high tin.

That was/is the problem with some currently made NRVs' also. From an old post ( Warning NRV ):

This is original Primus NRV thread (NOS Primus NRV):
