Hello friends, I got a Russian tourist stove, the jet hole is very wide and it burns very badly, now the cleaning needle and the spindle are also destroyed, and we will deal with it later. It is not our main topic at the moment. Now the main problem is the wideness of the jet hole and the lack of spare parts. Please share if you have any experience in repairing this jet. I would be grateful.
@kohdarmiansali Hi, the use of hypodermic needles to resize jet orifice is a technique that has worked for many users here. Clearly some skills are required: Another lipstick burner repair Nicola
Many of these stoves were produced. Couldn't you get parts from Russia? I believe Iran and Russia still have good trade agreements.
The method recommended above, is, undoubtedly effective, but indeed it takes considerable skill and tools. Alternatively, you can place a small ball from the bearing inside of the nozzle, rest the nozzle on a flat and hard surface and knock lightly with a hammer until the hole shrinks ( forging). This needs to be done sensitively so as not to forge the hole too much. It is best to check with a needle from time to time, so that it fits.
I peened a jet on a Prentiss Wabers stove with just a couple light taps with a ball peen hammer, it worked really well
@Majicwrench @Knee Hello my dear friends The jet hole has widened a lot, I don't think it will shrink with a few strokes. Thank you, I will do your suggestion now. @Ray123 Peace and blessings of God be upon you Unfortunately, I don't have friends in Russia with whom I can correspond and request. If God wills, I will definitely find good friends like you on this site.
@Nicola Francesco Elia Hi dear friend. As you said, the use of hypodermic needles requires precision, skill, and sufficient equipment, and I think that by preparing some clay or potter's mud and using the experiences of friends,(@presscall) useful things can be done in planting needles in the jet hole.
Hello, Ok, the page of hypodermic needles and their number is opened, I understand, thank you for your kindness
hypodermic needles sizes color code system You need circa 0,3 mm jet with green marked needles You can check - what hole You have now to repair You can use red marked colums 2 outer size 3 inner size 4 non colour code name
Today, I used the method suggested by friends, i.e. hammer work, and because the jet was too wide, it did not work better and did not get good results. Now I will try the hypodermic syringe, good night for now.
While I haven't tried it, an easier method would be to fill the jet with a non lead-bearing solder and drill it out to the desired size. At least in the States an entire box of bits and a pin vise is only a few dollars.
Hello friends Thank you for following the story Today, one of my friends said that you didn't do well in hammering the jet, he needs patience and slowly hit it on his head until the hole is almost cap. I also acted in the same way and it seemed to be somewhat successful. Of course, the blue flame is not completely blue, but it is not bad either. It's better. I agree with your friend, hit it harder, it should close up. Is the cap seal and SRV good? As I am sure you know, pressure loss really decreases these stoves performance.
@Fettler @Majicwrench Hello, dear friends, good morning Jet taping is considered a one-time solution because the heat reopens the jet hole and is not a major solution, it is considered a pain reliever.
I don't understand, the hole was brass originally, why would peening not be a good solution?? Did the heat open the original hole?? Certainly it is made of a material that can withstand heat.
Hello dear friends Today, I turned on the tourist, first the flame was green, then it turned yellow, and finally it burned blue. But after 3 minutes, The flame came out from the first control valve and I had put an anti-oil gasket and I couldn't find a fireproof gasket in small dimensions just to seal it and prevent it from getting too hot. And since I didn't have a graphite washer, I had to use aluminum foil. . No results were obtained. Do you know of a homemade solution to this problem as there is no graphite pack of this size. With respect
Hi, you can try to find some graphite tape or sheet to cut, roll around spindle and then press in place with packing nut… repeat this a couple of times to obtain a good compact graphite packing. Graphite tape should be available in some specialized stores… Altrrnatives have been tested, but not with great results: Alternatives to Graphite Packing Nicola
Anyway, before the stove is well sealed in any place, it’s hard to evaluate the flame and the nipple hammering result Keep going! Nicola
