Long, long ago I bought a Optimus 111c at the Salvation Army.

    Not sure what I did or didn't do to cause the photos not to appear but trust me, it works.
    I'll keep working on the pictures.

    I can fire mine up later and see how it does. So many stoves, so little time is my saying.

    Just fired mine up on kero, ran fine. From low to full on is about half a turn, you can open the valve further but no increase in the flame. Many stoves only have a quarter turn adjustability.

    As the usual regulated "Radius design" burners with internal pricker appear with different valve angles and needle rack lengths - they have different flame adjustment ranges, generally 1/4-1/2 turn from closed to full flame and most of them simmer well but need fine tuned finger feeling on the knob.

    To answer your question about using another type of burner: since the regulator valve is on the left side of a 111C, you'd need to find a regulated burner from the left side of an Optimus 22, or remove the top of a regulated burner from the vaporisation tubes, turn it 180 degrees, and sil braze it back in place so the valve is on the left side in relation to the fuel tube from the tank. This surgery has been done in the past, but is beyond the scope of most mortals.

    Welcome! Your progress is great to see (and a relief). congrats on having it solved and functioning.
    i am late to convo and your
    "The spindle currently in it is new and undamaged.." <-- this comment it seems was also late to convo.
    I read that and the ultimate fix occurred to me (for others too i am sure) ...double check that the replacement spindle is an exact match... you did this without prompting and found the problem, all's well that ends well (for shut off problem, for non-working 111C).

    *btw it was " c.1997 111C Hiker replaces Hiker Multi Fuel "
    re your "It was in the box with instructions..."
    your stove, these complete in-box examples (& the instructions) make THE BEST gallery entries. There are not many 111C entries.
    A used 111, for sure, can undergo changes over years it is VERY helpful to have images of a complete in-box example and instructions for reference for MANY readers/users that could be available for many years to come.
    thank you.

    ===============
    you bought it
    *long long ago... almost sounds "old" 1997. On CCS... stoves bought long long ago could be 1897 : ) . 1997 is old, i grant you that. My oh my how time flies.

    I've got a Meva, a Primus 96 and recently acquired a 1948 Coleman 2 burner all of these are older than me. They're still younger than a lot of what can be seen here at CCS. Long, long ago is only in reference to my personal history of close to 20 years of struggling with and ignoring it. By way of comparison yesterday I received a 111b in the mail. Today I cleaned, prepped and painted the box, brazed the damage on the burner, reattached a hinge and the tank supports. After testing it I replaced the NRV and cap gasket. Both the pip and gasket were as hard as bakelite. I then fired it up and made tea. Less than 24 hours vs 20 years for the 111c. Satisfying but I occasionally wish (as do several people who know me) that I were "normal" and didn't obsess over stoves among other "hobbies". CCS reminds me I'm not the only one.
