I like light packing, and i like my little brass stoves. It would be neat to just switch out the burner head for one that held a mantle and brighten up the campsite. I wonder if anyone has tried it, and if so, whether anyone has advice or instructions on how to do so? Many thanks - DTE
@Firedevil What lantern make/model did the vent, cage, globe, and burner assembly come from? Curious minds want to know Cheers, David
I made one for a Radius 20 some time ago, and that one use the same type of burner as two of the stoves you mentioned, so it should work with the 8R and 123. The advantage with this type of lamp attachment is that you don't need to unscrew the burner. It sit above it. You can look here for more info.
Was it really 13-odd years ago?! And I still have not got round to making a lamp attatchment like yours for my Radius 20!
Doesn't time just fly? It's a bit terrifying actually... I scrolled down that text, and saw that I also tested it on an 8R already back then! (Which was one of the stoves in McBhaine's question here.)
...and I'm still no more sensible with the added years! The 8r in lamp mode is the best stove modification I've seen, so wrong but at the same time so right! With a suitable tin box to keep the lantern attachment safe in, it would make a great lightweight combination cooking and lighting outfit for solo camping.
That’s a clever idea, I like it. There are some amazingly gifted engineer types here. I am not one of them. I'd like to see one for the Svea 123.
It should work on a Svea 123 aswell as on an Optimus 8. It's the same kind of principle. Radius made an attachment for their No.42 (seen here), and that one is not far from a Svea 123, isn't it? That factory made attachment is a bit like my home made one:
@Firedevil Thank for the link to your post it was an interesting read. I enjoyed it @Blackdog I also enjoyed your post on the hand held fire bowl. Very interesting read as well Cheers, David
I did the reverse and made a kerosene stove with a Indian silent burner and a Coleman lantern tank and valve assembly. It works best using air pressure to control it by pumping or releasing air. I release air by loosening the cap slightly, 1-1 1/2 turns. It works fine although I haven't devised a permanent pot support arrangement.
@Christer Carlsson Buddy, I meant give you thanks for the link you supplied. I enjoyed it very much and appreciate you sharing as well Cheers, David
