    Hello,

finally found a complete and fully original Svea No 5 from the very early period, with a complete (rare) 805 tubular burner, an incredible original 965 funnel and a beautiful trivet with the earliest design.

I would say hard to get better than this.

These pre WW1 models are very hard to find, considering that just after the war the more economical models were the most commonly sold: 10,11,14,15.

So, finding the real deal, the full weight and quality models 0,1,4,5 is becoming very hard.

The tubular burner 804/805 is more easy to find if compared to the mythological roarer versions 800/801, that since the beginning had the standard cross roarer burner alternative already available on models 10-11, so probably the more common burner was the most sold.

In any case, also if the silent burners were more common, finding them complete with inner cap and top plate is almost a mission impossible. As well with the burning ring intact and not burned out.

Because I am lucky, but not too lucky, the very nice 805 burner on this Svea 5 has a vapor leak on one of the main tubes, so until I can get it repaired I am not able to show the stove burning.

Probably it’s time for me to get some brazing equipment…

    Anyway, here it is:

@Nicola Francesco Elia A fantastic example, it looks blemish-free. A rare survivor in this condition from an era of high quality and attractive stoves. Great photos!

Superb example, Nicola. And very interesting to see it has one of the simpler ''Patent' tank base stamp as opposed to the more common type which incorporated 'Made in Sweden' in the centre of the roundel. The 'Patent' base mark is still something of a conundrum, should it fit into a timeline? or was it used in parallel with 'Made in Sweden' for some other reason?

    @Blackdog thanks! I agree, it’s also repair free… so very beautiful :)

@igh371 Thanks Ian. As you know there are no certain answers for Svea stoves unfortunately. I consider this bottom stamping as the earliest one.

Another detail: the burner top cap is not branded Svea, while on your complete example it is branded. On your example we have Made in Sweden on bottom stamping.

I always follow the logic that additional details are always added later and not removed.

So the sum of unbranded top cap and Patent stamping for me means 1908 or very early period, so top cap branding and Made in Sweden for me come later, probably connected with the increase of sales of Svea stoves outside of Sweden.

As side note: some of you probably noticed that the leather cup brass “stretcher” (I don’t know how to call it) is not installed as supposed within the leather cup.

With it installed I wasn’t able to have the pump to work properly, the leather cup resulted too tight inside the pump tube making a vacuum effect on the up stroke, with the result that no air was able to enter the pump tube to be then pushed inside the tank.

So I just put it on the pump rod to conserve the piece in a safe place.

Probably my leather cups are too thick to work with that part installed or there is another reason that I still have to understand.

Hi Nicola. Beautiful stove. Very nicely preserved depth (sharpness) of engravings. A great find.
I wish you a successful repair of the burner.
    Greetings

Good afternoon @Nicola Francesco Elia well done there on a stunning and lucky find, the antique Svea No 5 just screams quality at it's best, the cast trivet is fantastic all the engraved lettering on the stove is absolutely stunning, even the funnel with its filter gauze and over fill device is pure quality, which is quite amazing it is still with the stove.

Well done there Nicola you really have scored a amazing and highly interesting stove

@Knee @mr optimus thank you very much… yea, engravings are fantastic, fortunately and probably it’s never been polished, so everything is almost like the first day :)

I just hate the fact that I still can’t light it, but that will be sorted soon hopefully :)
