I found this optimus a few days ago.. I never seen what goes on the upper clip before. This one came with this cup is this what goes on the upper clip?
I can't remember what the second clip is for, but a brass measure was definitely never on the list of optional extras! I wonder if the previous owner used it for getting priming juice from the tank?
@Nicola Francesco Elia unlike the 8, the 8r's have a built in cleaning needle so no pickers would be supplied of carried- the double clip was probably just a carry-over of the original design?
@Dalton McCombs Welcome ! +1 the clip is not for the measuring spoon. +1 the 2 sided clip is a carry-over of earliest version of that case (which did use a pricker). you will find 8R instructions on the site, you do not need measuring spoon or pricker. At the risk of sounding as goofy as i am... Yours is a self cleaning 8R, it does not need a pricker... the upper clip. the smaller side, is for... nothing, and I think i got that right.
Yes probably is a carry-over of the old design. In fact that clip will disappear when the new key will be introduced, connected to the pot supports by the chain. Nicola
I sold my 8r, sad as it was an earlier one with the nice control knobs. Maybe I'll find another.... or possibly an 8 which would be even nicer! @Dalton McCombs The measure won't fit in the filler hole, but my guess would be that a little would be poured from the tank or fuel bottle.
Using the second clip will hasten loosening its spot weld, and cause the whole thing to drop off. (Which it will do eventually anyway.) On my 8R I now use a small magnet to hold the wrench to the lid.
I've always used the "laying on of hands" priming method for gasoline/petrol stoves. Warm the tank with hand while the fuel tap is open. A slow flow of fuel will enter the priming cup. Remove hand and close tap when enough. I understand this is a poor method below freezing (and above body temperature), but otherwise it works well and doesn't require extra tools.
