Hello everyone, I've received my long waited Primus 96 stove today. It was shipped to me from a friend from Sweden. The stove looks nice, however I haven't tested it yet. I've seen some orange spots over it. I am not sure if this is a certain type of patina formulating, or if it is a kind of corrosion. I am planning to slowly deal with it, not to make any regrettable mistake. I leave some pictures below and will wait for any kind recommendations. The code at the bottom of the tank is AB1. With many thanks, Migwar
AB=1937 The stains looks like the result of long time paper wrapping of polished brass when the paper was slightly acidic like many newspapers for example - a mild polishing agent containing some oil or wax but without acid would restore the old gloss. Be aware that the rubber O-ring i see between tank and burner will not stand the heat ftom the burner, there should be a lead washer in the fitting of the tank that seals against bottom of burner. O-ring could be used for the reserve cap.
Thank you for the information and help @Lennart F . BelowI am sharing some pictures of it working. Will polish it later to remove the orange matter (unfortunate because I wanted to keep old patina).
@Migwar Lovely stove, I have a soft spot for the little 96! @Lennart F What would happen if Migwar didn’t polish out the orange marks? Would it be purely aesthetic or detrimental to the brass please? Regards Jeremy
Thanks @Jeremy Belgrave-Lock . I believe soft spots are everywhere for the love of these little 96rs; Thank you as well for interpreting the question here regarding the orange spots. Regards, Migwar
The only thing with leaving the stains as is would be a slightly faster staining if exposed to damp conditions.
