I have an Eriksson’s Prince #1 Special. It has the usual KFE-MFAB markings and the three crowns, and generic “Made in Sweden” on the burner and trivet. There are no markings on the bottom of the tank. I tried to find one like it in the Stove Reference Gallery and found a much earlier one than the one I have under a post by nmp in November of 2013 entitled Prince #1 Three Crowns. There is no discussion of the “Special” designation. So my question is - Is there any significance to the “Special ” designation? Why do some #1s have it's but not others?
@E.B. It's well established the stove makers copied each other, often when a new model/niche or upgrade is rolled out by one maker, the others follow/copy. Pre-c1911 there was model 1 (& 5). c1911 a "No.1 Special" debuted from Optimus, Primus and *others. "Special" is an economy version. As that relates to, Eriksson’s Prince No.1, "What makes it Special? 1912 K.F.Erikssons Catalogue (partial) establishes that *"Special" for Eriksson reflects how the makers copied each other and how Eriksson’s Prince No.1 Special aligns with c1911 "Special" model from Optimus (and others). In that Eriksson catalog, the page title is "Special No.1" while the table below refers to Special No.1 as "1S:or" : the same model designation Optimus (& Primus) had adopted by 1911. What is "Special" about these "S" models? Trevor, myself & others (after years of review) could provide on-topic Optimus detail re their "S" / economy versions:
Hello, my Svecia no 1 Special uses a smaller burner, so the one expected on a no 0. So for my Svecia the Special is the equivalent of Junior for Primus. Not sure if for Prince branded stoves the word “special” is used in the same way. Nicola
