The blue flames show you not only have the instructions but you read them. Beautiful stove, a real time capsule.

    @John P. Jordan

Welcome to CCS! Thank you for sharing this stove with us, and for posting it in the Stove Reference Gallery. I knew that PW made this stove, rebadged, for both Sears Roebuck, and Montgomery Wards, but was totally unaware that they also made it for Western Auto, too!

Back in the day, it seems that quite a few different manufacturers made things for Western Auto, including some firearms. I have an old Western Auto marked, single barreled shotgun, in .20 gauge, which was gifted to me back in the mid-1960's. I seem to recall it was actually made by Savage Arms, but rebadged for Western Auto.

Very cool find, and well done on the fettling, and firing. Thanks for the great photos, too. If you get a chance, could you please smooth out the instructions that came with your stove, and photograph each page, then post them in the appropriate Gallery here at CCS? That would be a wonderful addition to the Stove Reference Gallery! Thanks, again, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Smooth out the document using steam and a warm, not hot, iron.

I agree. Make sure the iron is hot enough to make steam. Your document will turn out flat as a board.

Very nice work, and. Great addition to the Reference Gallery.

I see some nice pressure lamps hiding in the background.

    Cheers

Good Evening, as has been mentioned above a warm steam iron can do a good job of smoothing things out. I have had good luck cranking the iron up, just a bit, and placing a T-Shirt, or something similar over the instructions, so the heat doesn't do any damage, nor does the steam. Try it both ways, and see which one works best. Good on you for wanting to preserve, as well as possible, the instructions. Far too many folks have just allowed that priceless information to crumble away into nothing but useless confetti! Good luck, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Looking through the gallery, the #4 PW uses a different latch. #8 uses a latch as picture on above stove.

@Majicwrench , I will refer you to @Robert Radcliffe post of his model#4, it is the same latch, and the same stove, study it closely and quit being a Karen…

?? Lighten up, we're all friends here.
It's always fun trying to figure out the odd little things on these stoves, and PW was so odd with their numbers.
The #4's I gandered at in the gallery did not have that obvious latch like the #8 has.
Gotta wonder what the difference is......

@Robert Radcliffe the only thing I can see is the latch on most of the #4's looks different, as in the one on Terry's site Prentiss-Wabers Products Co. stoves and most of them in the gallery, but not all, as the gentleman noted above.
Do you have a #4 and a #8 to compare?

@Majicwrench , @Robert Radcliffe , as I have come to understand the PW production of these stoves, there were more than 1 variable of the #4, the first #4 had that burner where the tube from #1 burner to the #2 burner kinda swoops around. That case has a different latch, and a different burner from the later model badged#4 like the one @Robert Radcliffe , has. I know another collector who has the very same stove as robert and I have and it is branded as a Lakeside for Montgomery Ward. Just as Coleman made 3 versions of the 425NL, PW, made at least 5-6 versions of the #4.

    PW's original #4 was a single burner!

Sadly no, I wish I did, so the mystery remains.

As @John P. Jordan mentions mine is a later model 4 and there were several badged as model 4 over time.
I did notice the original #4 was a single burner back when I first got it and looked into its history but I'd completely forgotten, so thank you for that.
