Equal to $22.78 according to the RBA conversion. 5000% inflation since 1938, near enough. Double the price now, and 20% less product. But 1938 is very difficult to shop at, unless The Doctor parks her telephone box nearby.

At the local BiMart today One gallon of Coleman fuel was $17.99 Two and one half gallons of kerosene was $29.99 or $12.00 per gallon US every day price
Lidl in the uk £1.75 for 1litre of bbq lighter fluid. C11-13. Not tried it yet but another variety c11-14 went well in the nova, Polaris and Omnilite. Almost the same as price of diesel!
It is enough to turn one to unleaded. Unleaded runs fine in my Soto Muka. I found in my Dragonfly though it runs a bit too dirty.
Shellite is $12 per litre here and a new Muka about $200 which is about 17 litres and I use quite a bit as I use it almost every day. The generator is about $90 if I need a new one, not quite 8 litres of Shellite worth. This is the second Muka and they both work well on unleaded as the nozzle is running a bit cooler, unleaded is also a recommended fuel as per the user manual. Unleaded is less than $2 per litre
I’m open to the idea that the Muka might be a unicorn in being able to reliably burn unleaded. It is around 15k BTU/hr after all, which is significantly more than anything else. The higher operating temperature and unique burner design may be able to burn unleaded additives that other stoves can’t. That also seems to mean generators don’t last as long but I agree there is an economic consideration to that against cheaper fuel costs. How much unleaded have you burnt in the Muka so far? It would be good to continue this conversation on a different thread. Being able to reliably burn cheaper and widely available (in remote locations) fuels than even propane is a holy grail issue for some of us - particularly for long term remote outback touring around here… I would much rather carry around a jerry can of petrol than a LPG tank.
This Muka has had probably about 2 litres through it...not a lot. I run it in conjunction with the MSR Dragonfly. I have already learnt that the Dragonfly can get underburn where the flame can sometimes dance around the jet. The difference between unleaded and Shellite is that this problem just gets worse and the carbon builds up on top of the jet. On Shellite this kind of is not a problem as it just comes and goes with no visible carbon buildup. This was a very visual indication of the differences in fuel. The Muka has a generator and this gives it enormous power relative to other stoves and the orifice is off to one side under the burner at the opposite end of the generator from the fuel feed. Only time will tell if it does block relatively quickly. I suspect it will last the 20L. If it does that then I'll be happy enough with the trade-off as it will probably only require a new generator... I still love the MSR Dragonfly. I don't know why...maybe it is the red and bare brass fittings and the simple build. The Muka reeks of engineering sophistication and runs amazingly clean. It is a work of engineering art and if it burns unleaded well without highly premature damage to the generator then it is s winner for me. The power is superb so very very quick to boil and doing toast in a rack like big chunks of raisin toast with lots of butter. Healthy...

@Alby Thank you for adding that... good prices, great to know for anybody in the area. And yes, get yourself an old pressure stove, you won't regret it!
red diesel, i thought they had binned that stuff, need it for me diesel heater, Tramper van, cannot get it down south ,
No, rules just changed as to what it could be used in- construction machinery can no longer benefit from rebated fuel for example. Have you tried boatyards? It's still legal both in inland waterways and at sea.... Similarly agricultural use, commercial and domestic heating.....
Tried a few places, but south England, it seems to be very difficult, did have one place local to me that did it, they stopped selling it 2yrs ago, looking into finding some one that has heating oil
Fuels - Rye Oil Limited ? Rawlings Fuels | Home Heating Oil | UK Kerosene Suppliers near me used to mention a yard pump on their website but I don’t see it there any more. -R
For USA users, some Lowes home improvement stores have their 4 stroke Trufuel on clearance - $2.72/quart near me. Worthy checking your local store. This is highly refined aklylate fuel, nearly 100LL avgas but without the lead, and I'd burn it in my white gas appliances happily. On clearance, it's far less than Coleman fuel. Make sure you get the 4 stroke version, the two stroke variety has oil mixed in and won't make your gasoline appliances happy at all.
