I've been taking a look at my modern Turm Sport after finding the flame rather weak. It took a lot of work but I managed to extract the filter / wick, the ironwork was a corroded mess. Looking at the head of the filter screw it had been opened before. I bodged out the wick with an extension drill that I made up. The tube is now empty.

I thought it would be interesting to see what the flame would be like with no wick. Here it is, besides pulsing, it will even extinguish, I can imagine the meths being vaporised and going back up to the tank in the confusion:

    Interesting expérience.
Are you going used cotton or fiberglass for the wick.
Here what a original look like.

Left side is made of fiberglass.
    Have fun.

Very interesting! Most of that ironwork rusted away in mine, that's why the flame is so discoloured, there was lots of iron residue. I will come up with some alternative wick arrangement. Stoves are a lot of fun, I've loved them for a long time
