I got lucky and found a Sigg-Tourist cook kit locally. It runs great. The chain is a bit rusty from storage. About a week later the guy I got it from got a hold of me and said I found more parts for it. The Jet pricker is missing the wire and I don't think the pan holder is original but now at least it's more complete. I still need to come up with a strap from somewhere.
One of the larger Ace Hardwares located near me in Colorado stocks Arno straps in their small camping supply section.
I've seen pot grippers like that, but never on Sigg Tourist kits. I think they were mostly provided for kits with heavier pots. ....Arch
This style of pot gripper I've never seen made by Sigg, but by Gröninger, and later Marbet (Marco), both in Switzerland. Is there any marking besides "Made in Switzerland" (mayby on the inside of the handle)? Best, Christina
@Oldhenry1 congrats on score, Arch, all, that gripper looks great and for me is an especially interesting "made in Switzerland" gripper. I've looked closely at many, do not recall one like that. I will add, G "Gerry" makes a hong kong copy that looks like that one (maybe Gerry copied that Swiss one?). @night_owl ---------------------- it is an early SIGG Tourist btw (strap loops on side of large pot, early font)..
Thanks everyone!! I don't see any other markings on the pot gripper, it appears to be a cast one. It looks like someone has rotary wire brushed it, removing material in the process. My guess it was stored in the kit under the key chain picking up some rust stains in the process. The pan that holds the stove has some stains from the chain as well. It appears to have a type 3 fuel cap, not sure if it's a replacement cap but it is engraved. I do know it should be prior to 1969 but that's as far as I've gotten as to when it was produced. Marc
I got this genuine Boy Scouts of America-licensed ''Dutch Oven Pliers'' off evil bay a couple years ago. Made of cast aluminum. Besides an angled plier gripper, it's got a hook on one lever and the other has a blunt chisel-like end for serarating the lid off a Dutch oven.
Interesting. The ones we used had the hook underneath the clamping jaws of the pliers. The Pliers were called "Charlie" and the hook was known as Charlie's goatee. This of course was a few years/decades ago.
Does a Gröninger normally have any markings on the lower handle? I think we can narrow it down to between those two. Marc
I've got the same Dutch oven pliers as @SveaSizzler , right down to the BSA crest. The hook on this version is great for carrying an oven full of stew, as the pliers open and make a great T-handle. ....Arch
Hi Marc Yes, a Gröninger one would have "Gröninger AG" embossed on the lower handle, below "Made in Switzerland", roughly starting below the "E" of "Made" and ending below the "A" of "Switzerland". Maybe it's a trick of the light in your photo, but I wonder whether there actually is some remnant of the final "G" at this position? Unfortunately, I don't have a Gröninger one here for a photo. But if you search ebay.com for "Groninger pot lifter", there are currently three (unbelievably overpriced) listings with pictures showing the inscription (search without the umlaut, as the name is misspelled in the listings). I see what you mean. The Gröninger is in smaller case letters on the ebay examples. They may have been ground off of mine when it was "cleaned up". Marc
