M1950 (SMP, 1982). How to remove pumps’ barrel out of the tank?

Gents, need your advice.
Fettling an old M1950.

Cannot remove barrel of the pump out of the tank. Looks like the rubber ring was not gasoline-proof and holds the barrel
How to take it out?

 

Can you tap/rap it with padding between it and something to hit it with? Piece of wood as padding to prevent damage maybe.

Afraid to damage it hitting.
Considering the pump with heat-gun to soften the rubber “glue”

That is a good heat source. I still tap it good, hit it from the side, you aren't beating it.

Hard to say from pictures.
Hard to say without hands on feel.
If ... you say hardened oring.
Then yes, a little heat can work. Do you have a heat gun?

 

Heat and something like a thin screwdriver blade to gently, repeat gently pry between the tube and fuel port. Patience is your best tool here.

 

Yeap use patience. Boiling water and razor knife may work also. Tube is rather thin brass.

 

Don't use a heat gun.. I did that and the bottom of the tube unsoldered.

 

Uh, that's HOT.

 

I was thinking of a hair dryer for this application.

Just warm it enough to soften the seal.

 

I had the same problem. I put the pump back in and pressured it out!

 

Almost looks like someone put it together without a O-ring and crimped it on to the filler neck. Not good.

 

Murph, your comment made me look closer at the pictures. I agree it does appear to be slightly crimped, whether intentionally or from someone using pliers to try to get it loose. You may need to pry the rim of the tube out enough to loosen it.

 

You could try popping a close fitting wooden dowel down the tube and using this in a gentle rocking/circular motion to help get things moving?

Not knowing wall thickness of the tube or how fragile . I would try to make or modify an existing rubber expansion plug to fit the length and inner diameter of the tube . Rubber hose , a T nut , all thread rod , washer and nut . Just try to get maximum surface area on the ID for friction . You can pull from the bottom without distorting the tube if the rubber fills the tube . Just brainstorming , Good luck , WR

 

There are remains of rubber ring.
I friend of mine suggested to boil it in a water to make this rubber “glue” softer.
Will try this method.

 

Solved.
I slowly pour two liters of boiling water on the head of the pump and it started moving out. Than slowly took it out.
On the pictures below you can see why it was stuck

So, a high temperature is a solution

Or maybe they used a Butyl instead of a Buna o-ring?
