Hi all I found this Primus in excellent condition at a reasonably local treasure shop. It was glowing a rose gold colour which drew my attention thinking it may polish out. However it did not! Even after aggressive attempts with autosol. As you can see the filler cap and pump assembly have come back to brass hue. Also a small section at the base of the burner riser. Has it been submerged in a citric acid bath for an extended period? I'm not sure. A dunk test and a good inspection shows no stress cracking at all. I quite like the colour of the stove and it burns well. Any ideas on the cause of this colouration? Regards Scott B
It seems to have affected the stamped parts more than the cast and machined stock parts.... I'm tempted to say vinegar, or as you say, citric acid... Lovely old thing, so hopefully no harm has been done.
@Scott B I am sure you can’t polish away the pink because after the acid bath probably someone applied on the stove a sort of transparent paint. So you were trying to polish transparent paint for sure I would strip the paint, wash again the stove with some backing soda, and polish it to brass color again… Nicola
@Nicola Francesco Elia Well thats a scenario I hadn't thought of.... Now that you mention it the stove is quite glossy. It must be a good paint! I attempted to polish vigorously for quite some time I will investigate further, although the colour is quite pleasant Not as extreme as your barbie stove tho It was great to see you meeting @Knee in your home town, I'm sure a great time was had.
