Prisma No 5

Good evening, everyone,
Prisma is a mysterious Swedish stove of uncertain pedigree ( probably Optimus clone ) poorely represented on CCS. Prisma No 5 was never seen here.
Beeing on vacations last summer I found it on one of the polish auction sites and I bought it. They sent me it to the post automat in Białowieża so I had an opportunity to shoot photos in a rural enviroment more suitable as a background than my house.





the shape of the tank lid is obviously Optimus-like.





The shape of letters suggests possible manufacturing period - after WW1





And recommendation od American Petrol Company products suggest the partnership ( joint venture ) of American capital.



There is mumber 7 stammped on the bottom:


The copy I acquired was provided with SVEA trivet:


and a letter " S " on the pump knob:


Construction if the burner is similar to this presented HERE ( Optimus 55 S )


At the end of warm-up time the rest of spirit burns in a small pit in alkohol bowl. Then the flame is guided by small channel to the top of the burner and becomes a lighter for vapours of kerosene.

These are actually made by Optimus, just as Lux stoves were also made by Optimus into the 1920s,

Indeed, here (CCS) there are few of them.
I understand that during the vacations, you also intensively " hunted".

"Prisma" is as close to "Primus" as you could get without breaching a patent! PW

I had a similar speculation as to origin. (I bought a Prisma 00, a one-pinter, early on.) Particularly after Ross narrowed it down to Optimus. Perhaps a short-lived attempt to skate close to the widely known Primus trademark....

One wonders if they just dropped it or whether or not a letter may have gotten sent.....

In comparison to our times, using similarity of the name - there were only timid attempts to increase the sale

 

This particular stove was made for the Belgian market. The recommandation to use "petrool" (this is very old Flemish for petroleum and put a smile on my face... ) made by the American Petroleum Company is in both French & Flemish. This is merely a way of advertising, there is most probably no connection between Optimus and A.P.C. . Standard Oil Co advertised on the Trois Etoilles stoves made by SVEA for the Belgian market.

O.K.. I will follow. Not even mention, that my older sister lived in Utrecht and worked in Rotterdamm as a professor in Rotterdamm Conservatory ( High Music School ) for about 46 Years. So forgive me, that I did'nt recognize those differencies - everything looks for me Dutsch.
