I recently bought a turm 38 on ebay It fires up fine and has a nice blue flame.. I'm just wondering if people replace the wick in these ..mines a single tube from the tank BTW.. Was thinking if it ain't broke don't fix it maybe Could I maybe pack the tube full of the same wadding used in origos I have some of that available..but I won't be able to remove this if I needed to ..or would I ever need to? I am new to these stoves as you can probably tell..
I have looked at it more and the flame is orange and blue a lot and blue sometimes..not sure how these are supposed to burn like
I decided to remove the wick and it's really rusted and in poor condition..do you think packing the tube after a good clean that is ..with origo stove wadding I have at hand would be an option here
upon inspection I can see the tube is open all the way through I could remove the wadding in the future but pushing it out with a wooden kebab stick if needs be..
I have a few Turms and have replaced the wicks in some of them. Mine have a twisted wire and the wick wraps round it. If you pack the tube full it wont burn at all. I have had to remove a strand or two of wick from the wire to get a good flame.
Made one out of copper wire, bit shorter than the tube to leave room for the cap to screw on. Fold double and leave a loop on the end so you can extract in the future. Twist it up to make a base for the wick. Wrap some thin wire , I think I used fuse wire , round the end and wrap the wick in as you go. I have some stove rope ( I think it is) and try it. The first time I tried not much fuel came through so had to take some strands off .
