Cap testing the Optimus 8R

    Can someone give me a few tips on pressure testing the caps on the 8R. I would like to test each one by using a bike tire pump to pressurize my adapted 8R testing tank. Can anyone advise at what PSI the cap should begin to release pressure? Some caps leak via soapy water test, but if I want to confirm that my caps are functioning properly, I would like to be able to test each stove cap I handle.

    Have a good read of this thread, and the threads linked within it. All the answers for Svea 123s are there, including the Optimus factory assembly drawing which gives the pressures. The same applies to the 8r.

    I have come up with a solution to pressure test my Optimus 8R’s, with tools so simple that I can never patent it.
    I had wanted to use a bike pump to pressure test my stove and all of its parts including the pip seals and their settings, and had planned to have a special fitting made to do it, then accidentally noticed that my new bike pump had a adapter needle for inflating basketballs and the needle had threads on one end, amazingly the threads matched the jet threads on the stove…so I removed the jet and installed the needle with plumbing thread sealer on the needle threads and installed it onto the stove. I then inflated the basketball to 20 PSI and slid it onto the needle. I opened the valve with the key and placed the unit under water. No leaks at the cap or pop seal or graphite seal on the stem or where the tube threads into the tank. Whole system test. Next I brought the pressure in the ball up to 40 PSI and re tested it and noticed that the pip seal was slightly leaking, so I set the ball pressure to 35 PSI and used my penta-tool to adjust the. Pip seal to begin releasing pressure at 35 PSI. I found that the pop seal is easily set to release at the desired pressure by slowly turning the adjustment until pressure begins to release. After that I marked the thread position and added BLUE lock-tight to the threads to keep it secure. This is too easy. Here are some photos. Make sure you have a new basketball and wear earplugs and eye protection in case the ball ruptures but they shouldn’t rupture until the ball is up to 80 PSI and do not bounce the ball as it could rupture loudly!!     I'm pretty sure you're supposed to win the internet for that. Go ahead and take Monday off, too. If anybody asks the gang at Classic Camp Stoves said it was alright.

    The only criticism I have is that it only applies to the "R" versions. I'm not smart enough to figure that out, either.
