My Optimus 8R

    So, I saw this 8R on a well known auction site. These are the sellers photos of it and I thought it would be worth a punt. I won for a reasonable price, but when it arrived, I was annoyed to see the folding door, which the fuel tank is attached to, was a seperate item! As you can see the photos are carefully staged to hide this deception.
    As I have no metal-working skills, I was about to bin it, when a co-worker mentioned he could weld. Happy days, let the fettle commence.

    I saw elsewhere on this site, an 8R and a 111 painted in red and that appealed to me, so red it was.

    The burner was stripped, cleaned with vinegar and brass brushes. The SRV had the washer and pip replaced, and it burns beautifully. It is sitting in a spare Touristy PT1 case I had, while I was cleaning up the original case. Very happy with the result.

    I think I have ever only binned one stove and that was because the tank was covered in stress cracks, it’s always worth a go as you have found out! Well done!
