I had a loose box of PT 1 and an incomplete Optimus 96. When I realized that I could stuff accommodate the stove with accessories. I made a cap, wind shield, supports and key. In the box flap, I made a clip out of springy sheet metal ( a piece of saw blade, bent hot) and a hinge for the rod holding the box flap at 90°. Maybe I won't describe each step in detail, just illustrate with a few photos. It can be used classically. Or in a box with a flap put up. After inserting the funnel into the bell, you can fit everything in. It is quite tight, but the lid clip holds tight. Of course, before I packed everything in, I did a combustion test, which looked good. This is what it looked like when I bought it. I decided to give this stove as a gift to my youngest brother-in-law, who is an active climber and camper. I am confident that my brother-in-law will use this stove, and I hope he won't mind that not everything is original
Nice kit! Swedish military had same type of kits in 111 case with 00/210 size stoves: Optimus 00 in military tin, 1950-1960 (?)
@Knee Brilliant concept through to the final product. A fine gift for your brother-in-law, generously given. It comes as a surprise that the Touristy box fits the ‘96’ and components in. We have an expression (pre-metric UK) of ‘a quart into a pint pot’. Seems to me that’s what you’ve achieved. A regular Dr Who - Tardis bigger on the inside than outside … I must ask, how did you get permission to cure paint in the domestic (?) oven? John
Thanks @Afterburner . Indeed interesting this juxtaposition of the 111 box and the 00 stove. @mr optimus Thanks for the compliments. @presscall Thanks. Winter evenings, long ones. Something can be worked out. As for the oven. Rather at home I would not dare this type of baking . Fortunately, I have access to a place where I can afford it. Thanks @CW
Just to add. To make the whole thing successful, I had to cut off the tank mounts in the box, and the stabilizer (?)for the burner.
It's a great finish. If it fits in that small box, your brother can take it anywhere. The idea of creating a new locking mechanism using the hole for inserting a trivet is novel. It's novel, but it doesn't feel strange at all. I'm jealous of your brother-in-law. Congratulations for the completion!
Very nice a usual. Thanks for sharing your idea with great photos. You can be proud of your DIY skills, always enjoy seeing them.
