Hello all! About a month ago I bought a Primus 523 A, that's what the seller called it. The A is supposedly for its alcohol burners, has anyone got more knowledge if the name was right? Upon fettling the pump felt quite stiff in its movement. Undid the cap, took out the shaft and found this. I expected to see either an O-ring or a leather cup, but this is something different. Do you know what is it called or is it just a makeshift thing? Here's the whole stove: Any information will be appreciated. Best regards Mikko

The legendary CCS is the best place to find classic stove related information and there is lots of knowledge about classic stoves, also from Primus 532 (and A is always designation for alcohol burners. e.g. 535A Primus 535 A - Late model marine stove): Primus No:523 Leather cap seems to be worn. 'Skirt' of it seems to worn out. Oil it and it should still work.
Thanks for confirming, Nicola and Afterburner! I guess i'll lubricate it and see if it'll work as Afterburner suggested and possibly give it some further inspection as the gasket has a rubbery feel. Gotta do some tricks with the NRV first though as it's leaking and stuck.
Bicycle spoke is useful 'tool' to push NRV's pip in and to get it moving (thread of the spoke must be cut off since thread won't go through the NRV's tiny hole).
