    Greetings Stove Enthusiasts,

New member here Ive really been enjoying the site. Been a long time lurker but joined up cause its lots o fun.

Question for you experts, Ive been restoring my Optimus OO. Got NRV / pump sorted out and new seals and modified some aftermarket flame spreader/windscreen China parts it's all ok cause this OO is circa 1930"s

I'm going for a perfect blue flame on all sides. I've run carb cleaner through and cleaned the nozzle but still get this (see attached photo)

Just ordered some new jet nozzles from Basecamp which appear to have tighter tolerances so maybe that's the fix but could it be something else ? Open to all the wisdom from those with much experience about these stoves.

Also wondering if anyone has tips about the best tool/technique to tighten Optimus 00 jet nozzles? I have the original tool but maybe there's a better way?

    Thanks
    Mike

Looks to be a dirty jet or the burner is clogged with carbon. Have you used a pricker to try and clear the jet?

The flame size indicates full flow through the jet but the direction is clearly off center - it may be caused a worn hole or damaged jet top or a bent pipe in the burner - if a new jet gives the exact same off center direction, you would have a bent burner.
If the burner is bent - in most cases it could be righted by first examining how it is bent and then heating and adjust the bend, this would preferably be done by someone with some routine from bending and brazing copper and brass pipes.

    Hi Lennart and CW,

You may be onto something it appears to be a little bent visually but not by much.

I have replaced the nozzle and cleaned it with the pricking tool but part quality is suspect.

Got some new jets on the way from Fettle box I'll see what that does.

I may try manually straightening the burner as it does appear to be off a bit visually. Ive got soem welder metal worker freinds who could help. Interestingly if burner is off its not by much.

Stay tuned thanks for the recommendations!

Cleaned and tightened nozzle and burner riser assembly seems to be running almost perfectly. Not sure why I enjoy fooling with these things. Big respect to the old timers who used these on very high mountains under extreme conditions.!
If anyone has a technique for tightening/replacing nozzles just let me know.

Any advise on the best system/tools to remove and tighten nozzle on an Optimus 00?
I do have an original nozzle tool that goes with my Primus 210 that I'm using wondering what might be better.
    Thanks

Here is some info about Optimus competitor's jet removal & tools (Primus 210 is same size as Optimus 00):
How to Remove Jet from Primus 210?

At ebay classic stove jet spanners with an articulated universal joint are for sale quite frequently...
