This Maxie stove was manufactured by Maxco Industries Pty Ltd in Sydney, Australia. The stove dates to around 1949 to 1951 based upon advertising. Colours available were green, blue or crème; mine was a mint coloured green. My stove is badged by the distributor, James Shields and Co.

This stove operates on alcohol (Methylated Spirits) and similar models in the CCS Reference Gallery have decals showing they are the Maxie Indestructible.

However, a two burner Maxie stove featured in the Gallery, (HERE), also bears the same decal, so perhaps the tag ‘indestructible’ is a marketing term because it is not used in the several advertisements I have seen. Some are shown (HERE).

I used Dulux Dura Max semi-gloss ‘green spruce’ to respray the frame. The stove is missing the original metal filler plug and I have used a cork in lieu.

The flame can be controlled to a fair extent.

I don’t know about ‘indestructible’ but you’ve certainly given that one a new lease of life Iain.

Thanks for the kind comments. Luckily the underneath retained the original colour though the top was rusted and repainted. Very happy now to have an Australian gravity stove.

Do make sure air can get in the fuel reservoir, if not, you'll create a vacuum and the stove will stop working (till fresh air seeps into the fount).

Thanks @Wim that's a good point. I think I will fabricate a metal button with a fine breather hole.
