    Is anyone else seeing errors in the number of unread posts counter?

    Yes. The count displays many more than the page shows.

    Seem to remember this from once long ago. Subscription lapse?

    There may be a logical reason for this, like you cannot compare an unread post count with the number of unread threads.

    When I opened this one thread, I found 9 unread posts. My unread post count dropped by 9.

    Yes, if you open a thread, the unread posts within that thread will become 'read', but it really couldn't be otherwise: the confuser only knows if you've opened it, not whether you actually read it.

    Thanks guys for all the feedback. This is only a recent thing. If I start off with 50 unread posts the counter drops correctly with each thread opened. I tend to open posts at random so in order not to lose my bearings I click on the unread posts button at the top of the forum to reset the count and it normally tallies but once it's down to only a few unread posts and I open the last thread the red 1 or 2 changes to a black 0 and by the time I've scrolled to the bottom of the posting and back up the counter at the top has gone back to a red number and I reset it again and there are 1 or more threads appearing that I know I have already looked at with no additional posts to be seen.
    @snwcmpr I'm using chrome as my browser
    @Ed Winskill It doesn't look my subscription has lapsed. I have seen that before though, because you loose access to some of the forums while your subscription is in limbo.
    @Dean mine has always done the same but once I reach the point of clearing the backlog I get the strange behaviour that I've noted here.

    Thanks to the Moderator that moved this thread into the correct forum. I knew this one existed but could not find it earlier BC (before coffee).

    Regards
    John

    another example from this morning;

    unread posts2.jpg

    There were 3 threads left after resetting unread posts, I looked at two of them and the counter jumped to 0 despite there being one left to read.
