Good morning all I have an opportunity to purchase a Snow Peak Giga Power WG Stove very cheap. All the important bits appear to be there. My main concern is having to replace some or all of the o’rings on the stove and pump. I have done a comprehensive search on this forum and the internet and cannot find any maintenance kits still available or information on the o’rings sizes required. I know already that I will need to replace the o’rings on the bottle top and pump but given that they are similar to other makes I don’t see this as too much of an issue. I reckon worst case scenario I have paid AUD50 for a nice Snow Peak bag and fuel bottle if the pump and stove are not useable. Any advice please? TIA Sebastian
If it needs to be dismantled take apart carefully and note what o ring goes where then take them to a local shop that sells viton orings who will be able to match them. They are a very good stove but sold poorly so not many made
So this is what AUD50 got me. Only bit that is damaged is on the main valve on the pump where the blue bit (some kind of dust cover?) is in two parts. Is that a problem? Stove itself looks great! Very nicely made.
@Sebastian De Beer Lucky find. I had been looking for the gas version of the big burner for a very, very long time. It's been so long i can't remember the model number anymore and will have to look it up. The smaller versions flame is cone shaped and produces such a small hot spot it's really hard to cook anything without a burn spot in the middle. I wish you luck in finding a service kit. Those pumps are supposed to introduce air into burner during startup, so no priming was needed. I might have an instruction manual that can be scanned and uploaded. I found the original add at Moontrail.com "here". So, I'm guessing they were sold around 18 years ago. Mike
@Sebastian De Beer I found one of the maintenance kits that I have. There are about 10 O-rings and a bunch of little clips and parts included. Some of the O-rings are so small I've never seen them in generic kits from auto parts stores. Mike
Hello Mike Thanks for your reply. I am busy cleaning up the pump as I write this. To be perfectly honest I am more of a user rather than a collector and bought this hoping I could adapt it for use in my Trangia. It is a really nicely made stove. The only defect I have picked up is a small blue cover that goes just behind the main fuel valve on the pump. All the orings appear to be in good shape except for the one in the pump and the large flat orings on the pump and bottle top. I was thinking of converting the hose to a Primus hose but I would have to get an adapter for that and unfortunately BernieDawg doesn’t do that type of thing anymore. To cut a long story short how about I gift it to you given that you will cherish it a lot more than I will. Please send me your address and I will ship it to you. Everything is there except for paperwork and some of the bits from the maintenance kit have been used. Regards Sebastian
@Sebastian De Beer You can easily modify a primus hose to fit without an adapter you just need the right tap and a hose/valve assembly. I'd be happier if we made it work for you instead. I just want to verify that the tap is 8.0 mm X .50 I was wrong, it was 8.0 x 1.0mm as in the "post" Mike.
All the oring sizes - fantastic. Snow Peak wouldn’t provide that info to me when I asked them yesterday.
Thanks for all the help Mike. I will get hold of a Primus hose and give it a go. Is it simply a case of running the tap in and out of the existing Primus fitting a few times?
@Sebastian De Beer Yes, I just ran the tap into the fitting going progressively deeper each time, but I also remember modifying the tap halfway through to make it more of a bottoming tap, so the threads were cut deeper into the fitting. You may or may not need high temperature resistant gasket. On one of mine I just used high temp red Loctite and basically just glued the fitting on. That stove had been severely damaged by a previous owner. Mike
