Scored this Peak1 feather today from a antique and collectable shop i visit once a week. it looks like too me it has never been used, here are a few pic's Looking at the burner, too me it looks like it has never been used, a little light surface rust on the feet A couple of pics on the burner bracket, i assume is the date 06 80 June 1980

Hi John im pleased with price, i paid £40 for it, but even better news the owner of the shop says he has a Primus stove he got from a house clearance, he's got it in storage when he finds it iv'e got first refusal
@mr optimus Brian, a wonderful find, indeed! The Coleman Model 400 has long been a favorite of Sweet Bride and mine. The entire Coleman 400 line is good, and hearty congratulations on scoring this Peak 1 Feather 400! I'll think you'll be quite stoked with it, when you get a change to use it. Remember not to short sheet the number of pumps that Coleman recommends when lighting this stove. Follow their instructions carefully, and I think you'll be well pleased with the results!! Hi Mark, i have ordered some Coleman fuel via Amazon as i have no white gas at present, i now have five Coleman' another Peak 1 the type with the cylinder style tank the sportster a multi fuel which i fitted Paraffin/kerosene generator, and of coarse my favorite of all the 502 which was given to me by Sam as you know is no longer with us sadly. Once the fuel arrives i will add a pic of it to the post, many thanks and God Bless
The Coleman fuel arrived today, so here are a few flame shot pics of the Peak 1 feather in action Of all the five Coleman stoves i have in my collection, this is one of my favorites the only one i prefer in the range i have is the 502. I may be wrong this stove seems to have a better simmer control than the 533 and the others except the 502. I really like the design of this model, as it is more compact than the 533, being the tank is more narrow in shape than the 533 which takes up less space,but with the folding stabilizing feet makes it a very stable stove. Such a shame it is not in production any more, i am very very happy adding this to my collection.
Funny, I subscribed to Outside Magazine during the era of that promotion. I was an import snob then, preferring my Svea 123 for its size, weight and simplicity. A buddy of mine had one of those Peak 1s and he liked it fine. I have a 502 I found at a thrift store for $30. I think I need to replace the pump leather disc. If that doesn't improve performance, replacing the generator is the next step. Last time I had it going, it would simmer, but not blast.

Last time I had it going, it would simmer, but not blast.[/QUOTE] The 502 is not quite as powerful on blast as the later stoves IE the peak 1's and 533's etc but do have better control ,hope you get yours going well im replacing both those items will bring the 502 back to life
I replaced the gas cap, and scoured some rust off the chrome plating of the bowl under the burner. Pump disc I haven't tackled, but a 5-pack of them has come in from Amazon or ebay. But if the design isn't normally a blaster, maybe I'm halfway there.
The best start, hopefully that will make a difference, if not then replace the generator, the stove is worth getting working, such a lovely stove
@mr optimus Um...doesn't the date stamp read the other way round (photo is upside down): 08 90 (August 1990) not 06 80 (June 1980)? I thought these stoves weren't around until about 1990. This is the parts catalogue from 1982 and shows a 400A (or a brown Peak 1 with the extra control spindle) I say this because I've just acquired a 400B which I think is from 91 - the stamp was either from the top down: 16 10 or from the bottom up: 01 91, but then I realised the first digit is the month and there ain't 16 months, so it had to read from the bottom up!
