@Daryl Since this conversation is heading into a slight turn towards flavor and chilies... I am originally from New Mexico and Hatch Chile is like a religion there. Usually I have to wait for my mom or family to come and visit to bring me a years worth (Hatch Chile freezes really well) but no joke here I went to visit the folks and they were watching something called Huelle Howser...and this guy went to La Puente to a place where they brought chile straight from Hatch NM here and roasted it. Sure I said...probably some BS outfit that says its Hatch Chile El Rey Farms Chile (elreyonline.com) Its not. It absolutely is Hatch Chile as I know it from back in New Mexico. Some other supermarkets and such will do the same thing...even have roasting in parking lots...I have tasted a bunch of them...they never taste right as I think it has to do with the soil. The chile is grown in dirt thats heavy in iron and looks red like Mars. I already have my appointment to get my bag when they come in...thought I would let you know since you also seem to be one of the lucky people who like spicy food!
@Remus Do miss watching Huelle and do know that parking lot roasting show. Our local Staters Brothers Market has had a Hatch Chili parking lot roasting event last couple years and sells Hatch labeled chilies in store while supplies last. Have driven interstate 10 through that NM area and chili fields for miles. Do believe all the 'Flying Disc' landings and takeoffs has altered the soil in that area. take care
Used my Gates Folding Stove with patent date of 1914 to cook up some breakfast the other day. Fries, dogs, eggs and peppers from garden. Nothing special about meal but unusual store makes my day.
Had time to burn yesterday ha ha while watching the Olympics. Diced up some pork shoulder and let it simmer with an onion for about four hours on my 413S. Added @Remus1956 green chilies toward end and enjoyed tacos again. Also made a couple apricot crumble type things for dessert with Coleman folding oven. Both turn out great. Daryl HOT SoCal
@Daryl I already contacted family back home...I got some more coming your way to keep you stocked up hahaha
Put my new to me table to work holding a big old 3 burner. More apricot crumble and my first sourdough pizza in camp oven. Not sure how pizza was going to turn out so also made some tortellini. Pizza was a hit and next time all that is needed is salad.
I'm going to have to drop in on you sometime. I figure if I just roll my window down when I'm passing through on the freeway, I've got a pretty good chance of following my nose to your house. ....Arch
Welcome anytime Arch. I am on the south side of street, my neighbor 'the cookie lady' is on the north side.
Chorizo pasta - a staple in our house, cooked with a view of the Pyrénées on a 123 and my lpg-fueled primus 2050. -R
Keep the pictures coming guys. Used the oven to reheat some leftovers from the freezer on 413. The yellow straight neck squash is from garden.
Use them or lose them. Used my Primus 57 for easy breakfast of fries, eggs, onions and peppers from garden. Not windy so did not use DIY shelter but did use DIY roarer burner plate.
Squash and sourdough pizza again. Used the Sigg kit for the squash and 413S for the Coleman folding oven. One pizza had pepperoni and other had sausage and garden chilis. Rotated every five minutes until crust got browned.
