I'm currently using a Swedish army burner in my META-50. I love the setup as it's ~800g and therefore great for bikepacking. However, I really do miss having the simmer ring and have been using a folded can lid as a subsitute. Was there ever a simmer ring made for these burners and if not, has anyone had success making one? Cheers, Archie.
@junior trangia master A Tatonka brand simmer ring works well Archie. Left to right (ignoring the Sigg Tourist in the background): Tatonka simmer ring; Swedish military burner; Trangia simmer ring; Tatonka alcohol burner and simmer ring. Usefully, the Tatonka simmer ring can be bought separately from the burner. Not cheap, but it’s robustly made in stainless steel. Google search, a number of sources including Amazon. By the way, did you manage to get the Tilley iron we were tinkering with at Newark going? John
Hi, Thanks for the recommendation John. Looks like a good solution, and great that you can buy it seperately. That looks like the same model of burner I'm using now, with very few threads (the one you gave me), and the one in my M40(?) has complete threads and can be tightened far further in my experience. The tilley iron, from Simon, who I'm not sure of their name on here, is one of two and is missing its NRV for reasons I won't go into XD and so I need to order a replacement along with a P96 tank seal. I'll get them both working in the coming months and post updates on here. Cheers, Archie.
Ditto to the Tatonka. I usually work the lid until it is very loose, so I can easily adjust the flame with a small push when it is hot.
I’ve been using the standard Trangia simmer ring for years with my M40. It doesn’t fit over the lid of the military version but it fits onto the burner fine. If the setup gets very hot you can get a jet of flame through the simmer ring hinge rivet when you use it as an extinguisher!
