    Hi all,
I bought a primus no. 5 last week and it starts fine. However, the flame randomly extinguishes. There seems to be good fuel flow, as once it extinguishes, paraffin vapour comes out of the jet. There also seems to be fuel making its way behind the leather washer for the pump, as I have not soaked it in oil yet. Any help is appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    H G

On one of my stoves, I suspect debris in the fount and have rinsed the fount with fuel a few times. Thinking something gets sucked up in the pickup tube.

Not related to your primary issue, but you’ve described a leaking non-return valve.

In addition to Duane’s suggestion, another explanation could be droplets of water in the fuel. The ‘paraffin vapour’ you speak of would then be steam and the flame would instantly extinguish.

Flush out the tank thoroughly and then ensure that only first-grade, pure kerosene is used. That should do the trick. Any water mixed in will have the effect you describe, so make sure your kerosene is good.

Will check the fuel issue by using different paraffin and will check the non return valve.

    Bad news:
While trying to remove the NRV, there is now a large crack across the side of the stove. I'll probably use it as a parts stove, as the NRV isn't budging.

I’ve had a Optimus 00 Patent develop stress cracks, bummer.
