Nice, they really look good when running as bright as that, hope it didn't take much fettling to get it running
@Tony Press why is the flame green? I cleaned my Shmel-2 stove and now it has a yellowish flame no matter what I do. And it used to be blue...
The green flame is caused by copper oxides getting burnt off from the brass. Are your Shmel burner & fittings brass or steel? Whatever you cleaned them with may have left some residue. My test for a clean fuel burn is to boil a pot of water; then check the bottom of the pot. If you can wipe soot off with your finger, it’s burning too rich. Tony
I'm not done with this Shmel YET Burner head is brass, internal parts steel. pump brass, only the gas tank is steel(almost no rust inside). I'm still waiting for a 90 degree fiting +small parts and I'll try a solution similar to Coleman, a longer path for gasoline from tank to burner AND higher temperature somewhere in the middle to completely vaporize gasoline before it enters the burner! If I don't set myself on fire(again) ,and all works well(blue to be precise) I will try with kerosene and diesel fuel just for curiosity! Cleaned it with gasoline and kerosene, washed with hot water+soap. left to dry in the full sun+36-38 degrees celcius in shade... what could burn red is beyond me... As I said when I tried the burner after a quick assembly, it's a disaster around here with mosquitoes... stay still 5-10 minutes in the evening and you're covered with mosquitoes... aedes aegypti or aedes albopictus... Maybe I should let it burn 2-3 hours next time! But fully clothed to fend off those "blood loving mosquitoes"
@H. G Oh nice, I had to replace all the seals and the pip in mine before it ran like a dream. I have a No3 as well and like your No2, only need the pump washer oiling for that to fire up nicely.
@Tim Read The seals on mine are OK for now, although there is cracking on the seal on the fuel filler cap. They're nice simple stoves. HG
@Gabriel Lorin probably a good topic for a different place in the forum, but did you try it with a pot on it? My Shmels (I have all of them except the Shmel 3) run blue when a pot is on it, and can change color if not. Try it with your pot on it.
@Remus1956 good ideea. will try it with a cast iron pot I haven't used in some time! 4 liter of water should be enough. cheers.
After the burner seal went, and a replacement arrived from the fettlebox, my Primus no.5 is burning better than ever! HG
