    Hi all,
As some might know, I picked up a No. 2 Cooker modified a couple days ago. According to the instructions, after 6 pumps and opening the control valve, petrol should start coming out of the jet, filling the bowl underneath. Mine does not do this, but is able to light and stay on when warmed up, but the flame surges occasionally. Any help is welcome.

I was recently gifted a Mk2 modified stove, which had been sitting unused for some 20 years. I had one or two issues initially with a sticking NRV, which I have now resolved. Re lighting the stove and flaring. I was getting that, but discovered that if I use meths in the bottom warming pan to heat up the vaporiser, the flaring pretty much stopped. Presumably, you could probably use petrol instead of meths.

For what it's worth, I have a Mk2 Modified and and a No3, I pre-heat both with meths. I got fed up with the petrol flareups and soot when you lit them. Meths doesn't flare up much and burns a lot cleaner, little or no soot deposits. Both run very well.
