Here is my latest addition its a Monitor picnic stove, another stove i have purchased from a local collectable and antique shop. This stove is going to need quite a extensive fettle as it is missing the top lid and the burner cap. The first issue the top lid is missing, which i will attempt to make a new lid. The burner cap for when traveling is missing unfortunately. A model serial number is stamped case shelf The cast flame spreader with the words British Monitor stamped in it . I will do a full fettle on this stove replacing all seals and a thorough clean and decoke of the burner and some work on the case, i may just do a light clean of the tank without polishing to keep the original finish/ patina. There will be pics of the fettle in the fettling forum and in the reference gallery at a latter date
@hikerduane thank you Duane for the compliment, you should use it even a few times, this now is my second high speed picnic stove
I’ve just lost quite a bit of interest, only getting excited if I win a stove or lantern, then when it arrives, the fettling. Duane
That’s a coincidence, I have one without a lid too. Went to the boot fair this morning and found a sheet of aluminium. Got the lid cut out and started bending the sides over then rain stopped play.
I shall look forward Driftwood to seeing the end result, i suppose quite a few must have lost the lid or have a loose lid due to the hinge breaking this aluminium
Mr Optimus , I wouldn’t hold your breath, I am a sailmaker and leather worker. Metal work is not a strong point. However I think it will be functional. Looking at it this morning before I went out, I decided to make a wooden form, I bent the sides, can’t do much more on my little anvil.
@mr optimus Good find, I like these little Monitors, a neat self contained design. It will be interesting to see it being brought back to life!
@Driftwoow i have been pondering for a couple of days now on how to tackle the way to make a new lid, my thought all so was to make a wooden form to the same profile by copying the lid of my other Monitor, and clamping a flat piece of wood on top of the former and then tapping the sides around the former to form the lid, but i cant see it working as it would crease around the corners. I agree Chris a great design, of all British stove manufactures they come up with some great designs and features on there products
