Hello, dear friends, good night I bought a Coleman model exponent 550B stove. Unfortunately, it does not have a cleaning wire in the fuel pipe of the generator. And because of this, the fuel jet is blocked and the stove has a problem Do you have any experience in making it by hand? Thank you.
Hello! I'm not sure but others may come in and say differently but I believe that the stove when turned off uses the wire to clean the jet. When the knob is opening it's pulling the wire into the tube away from the jet. When the stove is working air pressure from pumping pushes the fuel through. I'm not sure if the wire is necessary. My thoughts would be clean the tube and clean the jet by pricking it out. Reassemble it and try it. Might only need to be cleaned when the jet is clogged
Hello, I also think that the previous owner of the stove removed the wire for this reason because it prevents the proper transfer of fuel
I’ve heard of others replacing it with home made solutions like guitar string and thin wire. Search around for threads on this. Also, I see someone used teflon tape on the pickup tube/schraeder valve tube — perhaps previous owner was a fettler who messed around with it a lot. Luckily that generator is avail for about $30 so you have lots of options. And yes @kohdarmiansali is right that the wire is supposed to clean the jet as well as provide flow control ie simmer vs full throttle. So without the wire it should just run full throttle but I see your point- it needs a wire cycle to clear out the nozzle. Since you have the end off just poke a super small wire or other item instead of the wire that’s in there. And then put it together. That is if you don’t wanna do the full repair or don’t have the stuff to do the full repair now.
hi my good friend yes i am looking for a guitar wire i wish i had a pic of the wire from start to finish so i can make it no matter what i looked i couldn't find a picture of the wire cleaner
Yes, if you can find correct music instrument's wire, it will do the job. A guitar or similar instrument's wire will fit. Sesrch for 0.2mm or around diameter wire.
@fjfj765 @okerol @MyDearFount @Remus1956 Hello friends, thank you for your attention I found a very expensive guitar wire and connected it, but whether with or without the wire, the stove does not roar and the last flame is weak. I also checked with soap foam, there is no leakage. I made a gasket with leather for the pump, but the stove is not in good condition.
does the wire retract when it is turned on? Should only protrude a little when off, and pull inside when on...
Tie the wire to the hook in the valve such that the wire sticks out a bit on the low setting and is fully retracted on the high setting. You may need to clean the generator. I like the heat and air method - empty the fount of all fuel, remove the gas tip from the generator, then pump it as much as possible. Heat the generator with a torch until it glows a dull red. Open the valve to blast it with air.
Yes that needle looks like it’s sticking out a lot. As prev post said the wire needs to stick out just a smidge at the low setting. Maybe someone else can post a pic of how much theirs sticks out on low (i don’t have a stove with that kind of generator or id gladly do it!) if it sticks out too much at low then it won’t retract enough to allow full flow on hi!.
Hello, dear friends, today I opened everything and noticed that the fuel lift rod located in the tank is leaking from the part I pointed with my finger, which means that instead of going to the generator, the fuel returns to the tank. Is this part like this, or did the seller put it together or do I have to weld it? Please, if you have any experience with this, I would be grateful
That is normal. Coleman stoves all have a fuel and air tube. Frank Bebb has a great video explaining -
Hello, thank you, the subject is very scientific and complex, I can't speak the language I do not know English. I saw the video and it seems that this flow of fuel and air in the tank is necessary and mandatory, we should look for problems elsewhere such as the type of fuel. There is no Coleman fuel in Iran and we mix super gasoline with 99% alcohol to make the right fuel for this stove
Hello, thanks for the guides. The question is, is it possible for gasoline to enter the pump when the pump rod is taken out and the stove is slightly tilted? Is this also normal or is there a defect in Coleman 550B?
I went through this last year. I used the small “e” string from my guitar. The problem for me was getting the correct length. It did sort of work, but boy was it a headache. I have another problem with my stove now and need to tear in to it.
The prick! The pricking wire I’ve used for the Svea 123 failed (cannibalized from an MSR kit) Now a stripped of plastic metal wire bread tie can be pressed into service for the larger orifice diameter in a 123R jet, though not a 123 jet. Jet pricks aren’t needed too often maybe, but if you do you’ll need it bad. A “light gauge” (not Medium or Heavy) high E acoustic guitar string will fit the 123 jet, and similar.
@98 KZEW @Fettler Hello, thank you The main problem now is Coleman's lethargy and weak flame, which I couldn't fix
