    Hi,
My latest purchase Optimus 111 (mid 70's ?), it works pretty well. However, I ordered a maintenance kit from Stockholm Fogas Ab. I don't care about the patina, but the case is in pretty bad shape.
What type of paint should the case be repainted? Obviously, heat resistance paint is not necessary. I am planning to remove rust and old paint with
    gentle soda blasting.
What would be Your enlightened guess for color code.

In the UK I have used Hammerite Blue for a 111 case after overnight in the electrolysis tank.

    Thanks for tips,
By the way is the original paint like hammer effect type or mat or semi mat paint?
    Or even glossy?

    I tested electrolysis.
After 72 hours paint peeled off nicely.
Soda blasting would have been much faster.
Any way I'm happy with the result.

Nice! Just this week I stripped one of my 111 cases and finished painting today, so you have to wait for the final restoration pictures, but here's how I did it.

I have couple of 8R's that have reasonably good original paint and went to a local car paint shop with one of them. They matched and mixed couple of car paint rattle cans. I also bought 1K epoxy primer and 2K clear coat.

Didn't bother with electrolysis or soda blasting. I tried Nitromors on small area and was surprised how easily the paint stripped so I stripped it completely in couple of hours. Haven't had great results with soda blasting so I didn't even try that but I guess that depends on your equipment.

Next was rust removal with 85% phosphoric acid. I diluted it little a bit but it's still very fast and efficient way to remove rust. My 111 case was more severely rusted than yours.

Primed it with 1K epoxy primer. Three coats of paint from a spray can. Three coats of 2K clear coat.

As of now, the clear coat is still drying, so no photos, but maybe in few days if I'm happy with the results.

Others have used at least these two catalogue car colors:
    Ford Cosmos Blue metallic 2C
General Motors Maui Blue metallic 2C, color code 23
I have never seen them in real life, so can't comment how they match.

Your local car paint shop should be able to mix them for you. Just remember to ask step-by-step instructions for using the paint.

JussiK thanks for detailed paint info. It would be nice to see photo of your repainted stove.

I was going to paint the case by hammer effect paint – but now I'm not entirely sure.

I saved some paint flakes for future color determination. Funny how the original shade of paint changes from blue to almost green depending on lighting – at least in my eyes.

I would advice against using Maston's Hammer hammered paint, some other brands might be better.

My paint job seemed dry enough for some photos, so here you go. As a reference, there's couple of 8R's and an 8. The paint store matched the middle stove's paint. Close enough, I'd say. The new paint job only needs stickers now.

I took the most banged up and rustiest case I had.

In this close up you can clearly see the effect of the clear coat.

Those tiny tiny darker spots are pitting from rust.

As a reference. Don't worry too much about the color, there probably was some variation over the years.

Hello, if you can find anybody yr friend who has the Panton reference book, it is easier way to find the exact paint what you desire!

Not a perfect paint finish, but good enough for me. A really smooth hammered effect really hard to get all over.

    Looking good, nice job.

Again, I'd say to anyone if you're committed to repaint, just go with it without overthinking, it's just paint. Do it again if you're not happy with the results.

Right now I'm removing paint from another 111 case and you can clearly see how in some places the original painters have had difficulties as well. Some sides are rust free with thick layer of paint, other sides are full of this dendritic rust growth with thin paint layer.

Optimus 111 in action in the woods.
I'm still burning light kerosene, but I've been thinking I'll change the jet #2510 for small engine gasoline. Let’s see, at least it plays well with kerosene.

    Hi!
I see pics of your Optimus 111. I think the color looks pretty nice for the two models 111B and 111 international
One of your pics are of an MOTIP Hammerfinish. I guess it is the blue you have used at your 111.
I am not abel to see the number on it! Could you please tell!

    Hi,

I used standard MOTIP Hammer finish blue paint. I couldn't find the actual color code. But there are only 6 basic colors.

I’ve used the same on a 111, it’s somewhat darker than what was there before.

Thank you for your reply! If there is just one or two blue colors in that hamerite-series, it should be possible to figure it out!
    Thank's

    Hi!

I will check this out! If the color get's a little bit darker than the original one at Optimus111, it could be it fits better to the civil blue Radius 43?
    Thank's for your reply!

Yes, I see now that I have used this Motip hammerfinish before on my Optimus 111B.
The one on the left are an NOS 111 international with original a little bit lighter blue paint.
But I have been looking for a spraypaint matching for a long time, and it seems to be difficult. Have to mix the color, and use a spraypistol, maybe!
