Should have mentioned inscription under each burner flame spreader Radius Ltd Sweden also some Arabic . The spreader looks to be made of brass and it has holes all round. The left hand knurled black knob turns round without check. So does the brass nut underneath at the base of the burner stem. The overall colour is .grey. The surface tray is scorched on the north side of both burners bearing witness to much use possibly in windy conditions outdoors. The burners resemble the one on my Radius no. 6 which has a flame adjuster . I wanted to mention to you also that the two Solus stoves here are both going really well, one has the original painted tank as new. One has the Coleman inscribed burner. But I think this magnificent old veteran Aladdin is going to assume the senior position among my others. David
Tony could it be that the black knurled knob on the Aladdin I just bought is a replacement for the original ? From pictures I have been looking at this seems possible, as the original models show both control knobs brown Bakelite with cream centres . If this black knob is a replacement, I am not bothered so long as it works .
It could be a replacement, or the burner itself was fitted with the control wheel as is. Is the burner with the Primus control wheel also marked Radius. When you fettle this stove, you need to make sure you keep safe the aluminium washers that are part of fitting the burners. They may need to be lightly sanded to ensure that their mating surfaces are smooth. The fitting of these washers allows for the burners to be "clocked" to the right position, and the spirit dish to rotate freely. It sounds like you will need to work on this burner, and that you may need a new pricker rack/needle. There are some good threads here on these Aladdin stove repairs. Cheers Tony
Close inspection reveals problems with the old Aladdin. I may need to visit Tasmania to sort them out. It seems that the original stove had burner knobs the same , brown Bakelite, cream centre with open and close inscription in Swedish and English. The left hand knob is a replacement with a different fixing point to its burner ( same as my No 6 Radius flame control) Your mention of the aluminium washers means that I will have to get an expert fettler on to this stove. Also the right hand burner has a bent tube from some historic concussion or accident. Both burner caps have Primus inscribed on them. One has a number and Primus Metal inscribed. The situation is therefore do I keep this lovely stove as a non functioning relic or do I try to fix it so it works. The latter course is much the most appealing but looks difficult. Thanks for your help—-much appreciated David
You can do it! The most important tool is patience. Next is careful, methodic work. The washers are easy; just don’t loose them, otherwise you have to hunt around to find aluminium washers. Cheers
