This may offend purist but after reviving my MSR G/K 1981 stove I was annoyed by the stability of the stove top holding my pots. I got a Trangia fold-able triangle in stainless Steel. With a slight modification to accommodate the Fuel tube and starter with a dremel I got a stable, easy to carry alternative that works great. I was able to boil 2 cups of water in 3.2 minutes without the heat shield. because I have the Trangia very small portable alcohol stove, I can carry it as a back-up if the MSR ever fails on the trip.

    Just thought I'd share.

An excellent idea. There's no sin in improving your equipment!

Tighten the lock washers on the pot stands. They will wiggle less, or none at all.

The rivets holding the base were a little shaky. I mean I used this thing a lot. However if I fix that issue do you know where to get replacement lock washers? ...and how do I tighten them up?

Pull the pot stands and push the washers. Maybe needle nose pliers. If that doesn't work, you can remove the washers an slightly squeeze them. Then reassemble.

When the washers are tight the wiggle and spin stops.

    This.

The height of the pot is important for carbon monoxide control. If your boil is faster the pot is lower and the CO production is higher. Only use in the open air.

Actually, my fix doesn't change the height at all. It just snugs the wire to the frame.

    Interesting mod.
I don't have an MSR, but I have a three-sided Boundless Voyage titanium stand for a 3'' alcohol burner.
I also have a generic no-name Butane burner for Trangia style stormcookers.
    I even have a Dremel...
I may try to see how I can make it fit and use regular pots on that gassie burner with the long flex line.
    Thanks for the idea. DSC00341.JPG

Sorry for the confusion, @snwcmpr .

I meant I agreed with your comments. Snugging up the washers makes a huge difference.

Separately, the original post showed a solution that might be shorter than the later, longer legs and might have the same CO issue as the original, shorter X-GK legs.
