OPTIMUS 199 rare version Maybe a "one off"? I baught this some years ago. It seems never been in use. I think this could be a version wich never got into comersial sale! Somebody prove me wrong, I have not much prove, beside the spesial use of parts, and the 199-label was never conected to this one. As you se from the photos they used the same fueltank as on Ootimus 10. Do Optimus 199 and Optimus 10 shows up on the marked in the same year? It has not the common key to regulate the burner, but a spindel with a black nob, same type as on Optimus 10, just smaller. (See photo) So NOS, all serviceparts in the boks, compleete with service key, windshield, but no service manual added. Maybe it is some sugestion for change?!
A very interesting version of the 199. Perhaps it was produced in a small batch run to test the market?
This looks like the perfect liquid fuel stove. I'm glad that the prototype has been passed down and still exists. I'm sure the developer was a huge stove lover as well. Thanks for sharing.
Your stoves won't seem to stop amazing me! You must have very good connections to get all of your treasures.
@Mikko Thank you Mikko! I am not sure about my connectiond, but more than 20 years with collecting sometimes pay off!
@Camp numao If this is an prototype I agree with you! If there should the be more of those, we have to continue live and seek!
Nice stove. My best guess is that this is an assembly of various NOS components. The production of the 199 Ranger stopped sometime mid-late 1980's. The launch of stoves with (and production of) black tanks took place some 10 years later. I don't recognize the outer spindle knob. Maybe someone else has an idea of its origin?
@Staffan Rönn I think you are mostly right, and if you now they later used tank from optimus 10, so are this one of those! It has'nt non of the labels, thats why mu guess should be, thathis never sold! Thank you for you info!
Look good for sure I think the black knob is from the last 111T model and maybe the burner too. Maybe. Can we see the other one open so we can discover how well they are made. Thanks
No the nob is not from any 111T. This nob is much smaller. As you see from the photo include Optimus 10, you will see both nobs. It has the same shape as the one on Optimus 10 but with smaller size OK? As I describd it from the beginning. Maybe later on, I can take more pics
@JP2 Nobs The one on the left are at Optimus 10 ranger The one on the right side are conected to the spindel on my Optimus 199 none of them look like the spindelnob for Optimus 111T
We where issued 199s as abowe. We returned them as so much Mecano ain't practical in Dark and Cold enviroment. Later we had the same experience with Loke.
@johanKK Interresting! Who are "we" in your history? And are you descripion about all 199's, or just this type with black fueltank?
@SveaSizzler Hello! Burner made for burning alcohol! As you see there are differences from regular 8R burner for petrol You might have seen the burners used in Optimus 111A and 22A, those have burners for alcohol. The size of those are bigger than for this 8A alcohol
I recall the Optimus 111T has a Restrictor Collar for alcohol. It's about 1/2 an inch in diameter and 1-7/8'' tall-- made of chromed steel. But this 199 doesn't require it? I ask because Gideon from Kazahkstan sent me a domed burner. It sort of fits the collar of the riser on the 8R/99. A strip of lead foil helps the threads seal better. [The dome is most likely from a Soviet stove-- and metric.] It looks very much like the one on your 199 but without the ringed brass underskirt. The crossed pot supports from the later 199 fit the top exactly. My project is to convert a rusty-cased 8R into a 99. I have the parts for that except the top pan/cover. The next step would be to make the faux 99 into a fake 199, if I dare. I am reluctant to burn my face off, however...
