Hello, I just received my replacement pip and seal from the Fettlebox. The seal fits fine but I am at a loss to figure out how to get this pip to work. I replaced the original brass bit and pip with the pictured Fettlebox pip, ie just the spring and pip. Needless to say the stove will not hold pressure and will not work. The new pip is neither the right size or shape. The old brass bit and pip works however. Does anyone know of a way to have this new pip work in this stove? This is the right seal and pip replacement from the Fettlebox ie it is a D.

    Hello.

Remove the old, deformed rubber from the brass part that supports it and attach new rubber.

Insert the exposed surface of the new rubber into the bottom of the stove cap, insert the spring, and tighten the screws on the safety valve cover and you're done.

Sorry if this doesn't answer your question.

Hello Camp numao, thank you for your reply. I do not believe the old pip to be deformed rubber. I believe it is shaped to be and fit like it is. This is my problem as I do not want to remove the pip that sure is old but thus works with the new pip which may very well not work. And then not be able to reverse the old pip back together as it will most likely fall apart in the process.

Please photograph the under side of the cap.

I can take a picture. Likely tomorrow. The inside of the cap has a narrow hole tapered to a little hole that the original pip is shaped to fit. The underside of the cap just shows the little hole that the original pip nipple seals.

If you want your stove to work, I think you should just replace the old rubber with new.
From other photos it looks like flat rubber would work.

If you want to preserve the old rubber, you might try putting some water pipe sealing tape between the old rubber and the cap. I don't recommend it.

I hope someone with other knowledge can reply.
    I hope it works.

Thank you again Camp numao for your help. I replaced the original pip and carrier and fired the stove up and it runs like a top. I will keep the new pip in the Fettlers Deluxe washer & seal kit that I also purchased until the day the stove tells me to try it.

I have just been advised that this original spring and pip might be wrong. Does anyone have an opinion please? What follows is the advice.

I would suggest several possibilities regarding the SRV pip for your 71 as that is the shape of no SRV pip I have ever seen & the spring looks wrong.

1: It's a seal for something else a previous user has fitted.

2: It's the correct pip but the spring has been changed for one that is too strong & it has forced the pip to deform.

3: It was the correct size pip but not in a fuel resistant enough material & it's softness plus the spring tension has caused it to deform.

Okay so I bit the bullet and fitted the new pip and it still runs like a top so all is well.

I suspect the pip that was in your stove when you got it was of some kind of rubber that spread into that shape over time.

I've still got concerns about that spring - looks very beefy. If it's as strong as it looks it may take a lot of pressure to release the safety valve.

Dang, I do not think I will be able to find a replacement spring at this point in time.

Looks like I may be in luck. Basecamp has this listed on their site.
P4103 Filler cap with pressure release screw for late Primus #71, Primus 535 stove,
I believe 1960 would make this a late model #71.
