    Hello stove-friends,

I don't know where or when, but a lost the small piece of mesh in the lipstick of my Optimus 96. I browsed the Fettlebox, but I don't find it available. Moreover, after Brexit it has become quite expensive to make small orders from The Netherlands, due to taxes.
So I wonder what material to use to replace the mesh with.
Thanks in advance for you advice. Much appreciated!

    Klaas

It doesn't need to be brass mesh, I have used mesh from camp stove toasters ( steel) with success.

Are you not concerned about rust?

I would definitely be concerned about rust when using anything iron / steel based. The fuel cannot be guaranteed as water free and if moisture gets inside a hot lipstick the heat will accelerate the oxidation process.
You'll also get condensation inside the lipstick when the stove is disassembled for storage / transport. That will either corrode the steel while it's in storage or evaporate and eat away at the metal once the stove is back in use.
I'd especially avoid steel wool of any grade.
    Regards
    John.
