My 111b has been rebuilt with all new parts, yet struggling to get it lit. Sputters unless a pilot light is provided from a lighter, changed fuel, lots of pump pressure, hissing, poor combustion and won’t stay lit.
@Greg Orth what has exactly been rebuilt? List of items that should be replaced/rebuilt 1) NRV pip and seal - Would need a special tool to pull this out of the tube the pump goes into. 2) Cap gasket and pip - Large black flat gasket and a smaller one inside the center of the cap (usually taken apart with a penta-sided wrench) 3) Pump Leather if necessary Known fuel source? Are you using coleman white gas / camp fuel for stoves, or gasoline? Recommend only use of white gas / camp fuel for stoves btw.
If it’s hissing it should stay lit with the proper (Coleman) fuel. Make sure not to overpump until it gets warmed up; it can lead to raw fuel being expelled. I learned the hard way with my kerosene stoves.
Maybe something inside that travels only when the stove is hot. How is the screen filter? Can we see it?
Could it simply be not hot enough? I pre heated twice, pumped it 10 times, extra pumping makes it worse.
Make sure there's no fuel in the pump tube. It means the pip on the nrv needs replaced, and creates a real danger on catching your stove/house on fire. Mine leaked when I first got it. @snwcmpr was the one that let me know about it.
Cleaned jet and the needle works fine and tried it without the needle, no difference. Are the tanks prone to corrosion or debris?
Checked for NRV pip leak, not leaking. I did see a part included in the rebuild kit that looks like a mini jet, didn’t know what it was.
Can't imagine what looks like a jet, unless perhaps you're talking about the brass pip cup/holder that goes in the nrv.
That’s a nipple (jet) for a stove or lamp that takes that style. It’s not for an Optimus 111. Cheers Tony
@Greg Orth Hmmm Just to start ruling out a few: 1) if you dissasemble the burner completely - how does the inner parts looks? Clean and dry or wet and greasy? I am just wondering if that one tube feeding the top burner plate maybe is clogged? That is the left tube seen here. The other one to the right is just for pouring meth. Spirit down to the preheat cup. (The Kero version has four vertical tubes to the top plate) A pipe cleaner via the regulator axle tunnel can give you some info. 2) You are positive that it is not loosing pressure? - which would cause the sputtering and the flames - not keeping heat enough? Try closing the regulator and emptying the fount. Take the burner and fount out of the box. Pump it really hard and submerge it in a bucket of water (a large glass vase is great, but here it requires Chief House is out ) Now look for any tell-tale bubbles? Its normal for some from the pump tube before it fills up) cheers Nb: Pic is borrow from the internet
Sounds like it is only sucking fuel rich air from the tank, possibly a crack in the pickup tube. Are you filling the tank enough to cover the pickup tube? Another possibility, the pickup tube has turned and isnt pionting down? Just a thought.
