I didn't have much hope in myself fixing it to get it running like it should and thought I may need to turn it into a valve less stove. The first attempt worked until I tried lighting it up and found that the spindle had sheared off inside the valve which I managed to repair on the second attempt. The flame plate was homemade and I needed to file it into shape and tweak it to get s good flame.
I'm happy to have saved it and put it back into a usable condition. 20240531_172724.jpg 20240531_171842.jpg 20240531_171854.jpg 20240531_165655.jpg

Very well done! I love these stoves and would have not been able to do that like you did.

Excellent resurection! Well beyond my limited skills. Very pretty blue flame. So good to see a stove returned to its working glory.

@Andrew Excellent well pictured restoration, well worth the time repairing an original part that would normally have been scrapped well done there

nice work on the repair and new flame-plate

    i started making one for a 1937 primus 71 from some K+S 0.16 x 4 x 10" brass plate from a hobby shop
    flame plate 1.jpg

but before i finished a cheap 1950s? optimus 80 burner, without box or key, became available, so have used the plate from that on the 71

that plate will also now let me finish the home-made plate to the correct dimensions.......final shaping is with little diamonds bits in a dremel, then i might try and peen it concave with an engineers hammer.......or press in a vice between a golf ball and some hard foam???

at some stage also need to make a key from some thin steel

A golf ball and mechanics socket will work well in the vice to shape the plate.

Good morning. The last time I used the stove about two months ago it performed very poorly.
Yesterday I decided to see what I could do to improve it but it did not light at all.
Further investigation revealed that the end of the shaft had broken off again due to improper alignment. This time I will replace the centre section of the valve body and use what I have from my bits and pieces stash.
I don't have a lathe so have to use basic workshop tools.
I will post again when hopefully it will be a successful repair. 20241221_093436.jpg 20241221_093456.jpg 20241221_093523.jpg
