For anyone that has used this pot with a 123, do the 3 pot supports on the stove fit into the three slots in the heat exchanger on the Petrel pot? I assume the intent is for the pot to be supported on the flat sections of the heat exchanger. Also, is 600 ml filled to the brim? I need ~575 ml for my coffee maker, I normally use a 750 ml pot so there is some empty space. Also not sure about the silicone top on the Petrel but I imagine one of my other Svea-sized pots could share a lid with it.
Answer is yes. As the OP I have been using it to boil water for tea. It fits perfectly with the pot stands pointing or out. When they are out the pot is sitting directly on the wind shield. I thought that was too close for air flow. But that's just an opinion. I like how the pot is stabilized and won't slide off. It has max fill about an inch below the brim.
It also works well with a half-pint kero stove. The burner bell fits nicely in the hole left by the heat exchanger ring.
This pot fits my Primus omnifuel and Optimus nova stoves too. I’ve ordered for my SVEA 123R stove and I am pleased with it. My stove fits inside the pot and the handle flips too but I have to store the pot lid separately. @Ziradog the 600ml max level in second picture
I picked up a Fire Maple FMC-217 and today to see if it would work nicely with a 123. It’s touted as a (over-generous) 700ml heat exchanger pot with a 300ml bowl / lid. The measurements on amazon suggested the 123 would fit nicely inside and it does just that, however the width of the heat exchanger doesn’t leave much room for the burner flame - it looks to me like it would be impinging directly on the heat exchanger: Taking out the pot rests reduces that potential but doesn’t strike me as good for the stove: Plan B… a Primus 71L sits better under the pot: But it doesn’t sit nicely inside the combined pot / bowl. However: And an easy fit: Or better yet: …though I have yet to try this pairing in action. -R
The Handiware spirit stove works well. It’s almost like they were made for each other: and the resulting soot is deposited behind the heat exchanger: -R
That's brilliant- new life for old Handiwares! Great fusion of old and new. That would make an excellent compact backup/emergeny outfit.
