    I know "EXPONENT" brand name is a marketing thing. Thats really all there is to it. Nothing more! But isn't it really a meaningless word here? Not that that matters because its only a name used for marketing so it can be anything nonsensical, "like "Cloudsoft" for example. The names PLATINUM and GOLD in the realm of credit cards makes sense of because those 2 precious metals connote a number of things such as "success", "status", "wealth", "refinement", "hierarchy", "superiority", etc, etc. I get that. These terms all go hand in hand with money and credit. Whoever initiated that marketing campaign probably got a huge bonus.

    Coleman stoves had an equally brilliant marketing name in PEAK1. I believe the 1st product to use that brand name was the ground-breaking 576 stove. The 505 stove was the same size color, design, etc but had the 505 model # for the Canadian Market and was NOT called PEAK1.

    I am sure this is quibbling but personally I think PEAK1 is the BRAND NAME and not the PRODUCT LINE. When the 576 stove came out and it was their only PEAK1 product. I don't think you can call it a Procuct Line with only 1 item. Its just a prouct with a Brand Name. So, which came first? The chicken or the egg? The Product Line was under the umbrella of the Brand Name and not the other way around. Car companies have a new product line every year. Its a bunch of new car models. GE makes electrical circuit breakers and nuclear power plants and jet engines and was heavily into the consumer credit industry. And you wouldn't call those disparate items their Product Line even though they all are under the GE brand name.

    PEAK1's mountain-top name and mointain-top logo were both synergistically consistent with each and also were logically consistent with the burgeoning get outdoors and backpacking movements from the early 1970's. It was a BRAND NAME that was every bit as logically consistent for hiking and backpacking in the mountains as the GOLD and PLATINUM cards were for the financial and credit card industry.

    Time marched on and Coleman's definition of "light-weight gear" changed. Single burner stoves were yesterdays news as the new systems from MSR came online. Consumers wanted lighter gear for backpacking and not a single, heavy by comparison monolithic stoves. MSR split up the stove into its 3 most core basic compoents: Fuel tank, pump, and burner unit and ushered in lighter stoves with a smaller size, Coleman followed suit with their APEX stove. These were component stove systems. It was the next evolutionary step in stove design.

    But the Coleman Apex Stove was a component stove under the PEAK1 Brand Name. These new stove systems were comprised of individual COMPONENTS NOT EXPONENTS!!! Doesanybody know what year the EXPONENT Brand Name first started and which was the 1st Prouct called EXPONENT??? And finally what is the logic of using the word EXPONENT as a Brand Name. I think because its close to COMPONENT and they were counting on the public to be non-discriminating and just go with whatever they threw out there. Contrast that to Coleman's Brand Name "Band A Blu". Again, that makes total sense. Anybody know the reason why Coleman decided to use EXPONENT or have their own theories as to why?

    Gold and Platinum credit cards make sense to me as does Cloudsoft toilet paper but what is the deal with EXPONENT? Sheesh!

    No, I do not, but I’d certainly think you should be able to find something more important to get exercised about. (I’m still a little pissed off that you know has revived the Optimus brand name. I haven’t looked, but I bet it will hork search engine results).

    @bbsteinle Funny!!!!
    Of course......... I assume you refer to the realm of math and not that of the spiritual.
    But in the math realm no actual base nor an actual exponent has been specified.
    So some unknown quantity has been raised to some unknown higher power... per chance a.k.a. "the Almighty"???
    Eureka! Thanks to your guidance I see now how the "EXPONENT" Brand Name is code for "The God Stove". Who kew?
    Now that's a brand name!

    I always saw it as simple marketing for their equipment that helped you achieve "exponentially higher goals" outdoors. A "You're already really good, this stove/tent/sleeping bag is will make you orders of magnitude greater." Is it true? Hell no,it's marketing. Marketing is psychology. Propaganda is marketing too. As we've seen in recent years, marketing is very effective. Truth is irrelevant.
    I love my Coleman stoves. All of them. And all for different reasons. I love NONE of them for being the lightest. I love many of them for their reliability, consistency, and ease of use and how fast you can be cooking in just about any weather. But they never elevated me by orders of magnitude in any way but one. The joy and comfort they would give the men in my platoon to get that hot cup of coffee and 0300hrs in freezing rain. THAT my friend, is PRICELESS.

    Exponents as a literal math thing? OK. Why not? As in: "Coffee Squared By Coleman." ??? And the cubed-root of Coleman is ice ???
